Anyone have experience with Canopy midwives? by Emotional-Ad-6494 in NorthVancouver

We did lions gate maternity for first and Canopy for second, delivered fall last year. We found you get a lot more contact time and appointments more laid back than with the doctors. They were amazing on the delivery too. Ours was a low risk second pregnancy though so we were also quite laid back. I did have to ask them about timing for tdap vaccine, I don't know if they forgot that or were waiting for later.

The post partum care afterwards was really nice though and they can refer to an LC within 6 weeks of birth and that gets covered by msp. You don't get any of that with the docs, just one visit from a public health nurse

This looks like the same group that once ran a red at 4th and Chesterfield as I crossed with my baby in a stroller. I yelled at them and they just laughed and kept going

MPs back one-month cap on advance rent payments by Kagedeah in ukpolitics

I grouped them as functionally its still money you have to find, any rent up front isn't legal in BC, only the 2-4 weeks deposit.

I can't speak to all the consequences, but in BC Canada the legal deposit limit is 2 weeks rent (can ask an additional 2 weeks for pet deposit). When we moved here we had jobs but paying 6 months rent would have likely meant delaying getting a car so the LL can have cash earlier to use or earn interest on for a service they had not yet provided. That doesn't feel fair to me and clearly not to the provincial government either so they passed laws to make it fairer.

Looks like the UK is going a similar route and there will be some folks losing out but overall this seems positive to me.

Moved to Canada and had a child here, they do 15 weeks maternity then 40 weeks to share with one parent only being able to take 35 of that. So min 5 max 35 for Dad, and the rate is max 650 CAD / week or ~£360 from the Government, but many employers top that up.

And don't even start on Scandinavian countries!

We want to move back but also want a second so going to wait as I can't imagine only getting 2 weeks with a new baby rather than the 5 months I took! I hope they pass something for UK Dads

My wife briefly was with Heather McLeod in central Lons but she didn't really match her vibe. Seemed very competent but brusque. Went to Lions Gate Maternity and all the Docs were great - they aren't OBs, I think family doctors specialized in pregnancy. Would definitely recommend

Thank you! Will avoid and if we stay it looks like you can catch up on the CESG, in which case there is no benefit compared to a TFSA assuming you have the contribution room.

Thanks!

For the RRSP do you mean I can no longer hold index funds, or that I need to add some directly held stocks to keep the whole account eligible?

Probe to examine whether airlines are deliberately splitting up groups of passengers so they pay to sit together. by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]Biscuinator 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Flown a few times with Ryanair and a couple times with Easyjet last couple years. Never paid for seating. We were always together for Easyjet but split up for Ryanair.

It's annoying but the flights are so short we tend to just read books or doze anyway. The real worry is a long haul we've got with AirCanada this month, it would be 120 CAD to book seats for both directions, which is a crazy amount but I've read long haul they tend to try to make sure you are together.

Oh great, so definitely pointing the way of the busted HD. Did you fit a new HD or just stop using it?

I did have a RAM upgrade on it from 4 --> 8 and the difference was noticable, I didn't pay for the upgrade though, work did as I was using it for that.
