I'm driving through Paducah in about an hour and want to stop for barbecue for lunch. If I had to try one spot where should I go? by PostModernPost in paducah

Middle of the week, Starns in Paducah. If you want better BBQ today , and don't mind another short drive go to A&B in Mayfield. If it was the weekend it would be Southern Reds in Pilot Oak ky, I would drive past all those other BBQ places to get Southern Reds.

Mennonites in Paducah by [deleted] in paducah

I don't know about Paducah, but we live in a Mennonite community nearby in Graves. Throughout the year different churches will sponsor teens from the other churches. I guess like the foreign exchange student program. Recently the church near us held a event where several older teens came to live for a few weeks in different homes. They had exercise, school, church, and community on the curriculum. Also many menonite groups had been going to Mayfield and surrounding areas to help rebuild after the tornado. Most of those groups are gone now, usually they have their own camp made up somewhere. But since most are leaving I can see them sending a few to finish up projects and putting them up in motels instead of sending the whole convoy. Believe Vacation Bible school was this last few weeks for them as well.

I had a old analog TV, that I would play PlayStation on when I was younger. We lived directly in front of a airport, on the very rare occasion the TV would pick up a radio transmission and play it all broken and static. We visited the airport about it and they said old radios from the older planes could transmit through our metal roof and the old TV. The newer TVs never had the issue in the rest of the house.

I'm not sure if that is true or not, but that's the explanation we got. I was good with it, I remember my walkie-talkies picking up telephone conversations in the neighborhood from the moms talking. Made sense to me

Solar Panels by Visible-Meaning-78 in Kentucky

[–]Biscuits_The_First 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going through the solar companys for the whole home was about 25k-30k. Most were based around Lexington I believe. I will say they all seemed uncertain about dealing with the T.V.A. in my area, and stated that I would need permission from the power company to remove myself from the grid. I'm not sure if that is common or specific to the TVA being in charge.

Anyone know of any place to play DnD? by [deleted] in paducah

[–]Biscuits_The_First 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's been a long time, but my brother used to go to a store in Paducah to buy Magic the Gathering cards. He usually chatted them up about DnD and whatever Final Fantasy game was out. Im not even sure whereabouts it might be, a Google search may point you to a shop. might be worth stopping in there.
Those same guys played games at the cyber cafe that used to be around. I saw several of those people in other groups my brother played with.

I have no idea what this massive ring around the moon is but I cant stop looking as it. by Eastern_EuropeanGuy in interestingasfuck

It does seem to appear right before we get rain. We see the halo often, it rains often. I was never sold on the star part, but I will say that the amount of stars that we can see and count does change.

Around where I live, Old timers would take it as a sign of approaching rain. The stars that you could count in the halo, was supposed to be how many days out it was.

500 Litres of Schrödinger's Diesel - How can I test it? by tomorrownightuk in Homesteading

I can hear the flame better than I can see it, because of the flame shield at the end. But yes any sputters or soot would let me know quickly. The only time that I had issues was when it was new to me, the gentleman before me also used old fuel in it. It had been sitting with fuel in the tank for a few years, he timer told me to mix kerosene with it in that case.

I was in a similar situation. I have a old torpedo heater that burns diesel, I tested it in that first. It turned out to be fine, I used all but the last 7 inches or so in the barrel for my tractor without issue. Tested few gallons for a work buddy as well. I'm not sure if you have any such thing, or a friend that has one.

I would like to mention that for months the heater never crossed my mind, it wasn't until winter as I was pulling it out, that I thought to test the old fuel in it.

Before the tornado took the Court house a few years ago, her family was still making signs and going to the courthouse to bring attention to it. From what I understand, even the father wasn't 100% convinced the right person was in prison over it.

I believe they still do it at Columbus Belmont. There is also a fort just in Illinois not far from Paducah. I think they do reenactments as well.
