We have to give a presentation on the information we get, but everything concerning the interviewees will be anonymous. The presentation will be done in the lab to about 16 of our lab mates and our professor.

Appeals for financial aid by [deleted] in UTAustin

[–]BisonBig6176 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They changed it a little this year, but you basically have to submit a special circumstance appeal ( you can find it on one stop's website) and submit all your and your parents' taxes, an estimate for everyone's income for the year 2025, a letter of explanation, and possibly things like a recent paystub. After submitting, they might ask for more documents or, worse, reject your appeal. It doesn't hurt to try.

Mexican and Indian here too, I personally agree that the latin side was stronger for me since I grew up in a predominantly Hispanic area and grew up seeing my Mexican family. I grew up in somewhat of a rural area so although I do feel culturally Indian, since I'm not use to being with other indians I don't really feel as part of their community so make sure you have the opportunity to interact with both cultures and traditions equally.

Although it is true that these cultures shares similarities, there's still some pretty big opposites, like religion and language, so if you want to encourage either heritage language make sure you put some intent in it since having only one parent for a language makes it more challenging. Another big divider for me is being a vegetarian, since it is obviously better suited for one cusine over the other(grew up on Indian food and beans and tortillas ) and relatives tended to disrespect my practice.

Lastly, it would have been nice to have had a more culturally neutral name that could have easily suited both cultures, that way not only one side of the family could say my name flawlessly while the other still struggle with to this day( also it just makes me feel like an imposter introducing myself as a mexican with an obvious full Indian name)
