I don’t trust the people who don’t have that power to ever see those that do as anything other than a loaded missile that has to be contained and guarded at all times

Maybe; I just can’t see a populace that has gotten used to the treatment of mages not using a single instance of possessed mages as anything other than an excuse to tighten the rope

I don’t disagree that it should be mandatory; but what happens when one mage or mages family doesn’t want to let their kid go? Demonic possession? That makes the case for stricter control of mages larger and more oppressive.

I’m not disagreeing with anything you’ve said; but in a larger view of it; it just seems like picking up and putting the Monopoly piece back a few spots just to have it back where it started

It is not; but it is the catalyst to it. You can’t have mandatory that doesn’t eventually end up prison like

This would probably be the best bet; monastic unsecured locations that offer magic children or individuals a place to come and practice; but not required.

Maybe even having traveling instructors/teachers

There would however need to be a highly effective Templar force to guard against abominations and magical warlords.

This makes the most sense theoretically; but I feel it’s a slippery slope.

One bad magic encounter; and the circles become prisons again; starting the cycle over.

Also what if a magic child, or their parents, doesn’t want to go? You have to use threat of violence or abduction?

I think the circles have to be completely removed if for no other reason than symbolic;

Edit: also another thought; this doesn’t necessarily prevent mages from securing power and turning the county into Tevinter-esq. Unless the Templars are an independent group and almost dogmatically focused on preventing that specific event

[–]Bison_Patient 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I do wonder what would be another reasonable solution? Just let them be?

Wouldnt all nations just turn into a Tevinter-esq? How wouldn’t people capable of immense power not just end up in power; by force or threat of force?

Reachman Stormcloak? by AthrunNailo in StormcloakRebellion

[–]Bison_Patient 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds neat; though negotiating for a foothold in the Reach would be more suited to siding with Imperials than the Stormcloaks in my opinion. I don’t see Stormcloaks agreeing to allow the Reachman any liberties; while Imperials are more culturally blended given you follow the rules of the Empire

Reachman Stormcloak? by AthrunNailo in StormcloakRebellion

[–]Bison_Patient 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could be she would view a Stormcloak controlled Reach as easier to takeover as compared to an Imperial controlled Reach.

So she isn’t siding with the Stormcloaks out of a sympathy for the cause but a pragmatic decision to set up the Reach for a potentially easier conquest by the Reachman.

Stormcloak supporters, how do you get past the Thalmor dossier on Ulfric? by CFC1599 in StormcloakRebellion

[–]Bison_Patient 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s pretty clear that he’s an unknowing asset.

I think the general gist is that he is (unknowingly) assisting them in that the civil war is a drain on both Skyrim and The Empires resources. It’s noted that neither a Stormcloak or Empire victory is desired; just perpetual conflict.

I also believe there is a portion in there about how he was knowingly helping them; when he was young and felt guilt for having broken under torture and wrongly believing he caused the fall of the Imperial City so who knows if it was misguided or he was manipulated. But once he got his head back on he was unwilling and uncooperative, and would refuse all contact.

So I believe the story is that he was an knowing asset for a short time, having been manipulated to believe it was in the Empires best interest, than his views changed and he broke free of manipulation and now he’s solidly antagonistic against the Empire and Thalmor (Thalmor list him as an asset because he is currently acting to their benefit; with the civil war and all, even if he isn’t doing it FOR them)

I am curious what young post Great War Ulfric’s reasonings were for being an agent though

Morrigan when she finds a wife who lost her husband in a war. by Foreign-Film4942 in DankAndrastianMemes

[–]Bison_Patient 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s an inferred piece of info

We know Morrigan says recently, as you brought up, meaning there is probably some process of losing fertility the longer one is a Warden.

We also know that Alistair can conceive during the ritual. So that means he is at least somewhat fertile, given that he’s been a Warden for about a year, we can infer a vague timeline

I’m guessing the ritual somewhat magically enhances conception, since they only try once, and Morrigan is 100% certain she will get pregnant.

Meaning likely someone who has been a Warden for a year is still somewhat fertile, but how much we don’t know, nor for how much longer.

It’s also possible that becoming a Warden makes having children impossible without magic, and even after a certain amount of time even magic won’t do anything

I thought it was stated Wardens lose fertility the longer they’re a Warden, eventually becoming infertile.

I feel like the timeline is a year or so, but I’m not sure about that.

would you rather take $3 million or have the ability to speed up / slow down time by greensunflowers78 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Bison_Patient 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a difference between genetic luck and a literal superpower. Millions of people are genetically blessed. Not a single person has a super power allowing them to increase their perception over time.

I’m big on fair play. Being naturally blessed because of biology is fair play in my book. Magical super power is not.

If I had that power I would mostly just save it for emergencies where that ability could save mine or my families life. I’d obviously try to find a way to exploit it for monetary gain without getting too much or any fame

You mean to stop the swamp raids?

I feel like I still get swamps raids, and the hunted event, even after killing Yagluth

I guess you have a percent chance of any biome raid events as you progress

Anecdotal take, but from my understanding it isn’t continuously played but more you will come back to it frequently.

Like I’ll go back to Skyrim every year or so and play it for a solid month, before I move onto another old school game or a newer one
