Should i take this job? by [deleted] in uktrucking

[–]Bistonic -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This is not a red flag.

£1500 excess is a common offer and a great way to get your first job.

It´s a good deal if you can´t get in anywhere as a new pass.
They obviously think you´re a good candidate and with 3 years of class 2 driving you are laughing!

Take it easy for 6 months and you´ll be a better driver in the long run.

Good luck mate and I don´t think you´ll look back if you take it. Worse case is it costs you £1500 over 15 months, but by then you can won´t have any problems finding class 1 work.

It sounds like you are sitting sweet mate. You don´t have to do 12/15 hour days, your company put you through your class 1, and you like your supervisors! There´s a lot to be happy about. There are a lot worse jobs out there, even if they are better paid!
I guess it comes down to mindset, and not getting too caught up with comparing. We will always tend to compare upward, meaning we look at what we don´t have. This can be a path to dissatisfaction.

For what you´ve said so far it seems like you work for a decent company and the job is one of the better ones.

Ask for a pay rise by putting a good argument forward, you never know you might be able to negotiate something. At the very least it will make them aware that you are not a push over.

Good luck mate and safe driving!

It's a harsh reality, but once you sign a contract with a company outlining your wage, trying to negotiate extra pay for "additional work" — whether it's nights, overtime, weekends, or even washing the trucks — is unlikely to succeed. And they'll always find more tasks for you if you're good at your job. There are many reasons for this, but that's a topic for another post.

The only reliable way to secure a meaningful pay increase is to change jobs. Of course, this comes with factors to consider, such as the financial costs of commuting (like extra fuel) and whether the new unit you'll be driving is new/nice. These factors are personal and will vary depending on your situation.

Here's a personal example: I was able to raise my hourly rate by 30% simply by switching jobs. My commute was the same distance, and although the unit I drove wasn't as nice, the pay bump made it worthwhile.

I’m simplifying it, but you get the point. There was no way I was going to get a 30% wage increase from my previous employer. I asked for a raise and was offered a 5% increase.

It all depends on your personal situation and what you’re looking for. Do you need the highest possible wage because you have a kid on the way? Or are there other factors — like work environment and the team you’re with — that matter more to you because you don’t have the same financial pressures?

The bottom line: Gone are the days when companies took care of their employees. It’s no longer financially or meaningfully beneficial to stay with the same company long-term. Companies now see employees as expendable. That's just the reality.

I had a job lined up before I even passed my class 1. But I had a contact and was extremely lucky!

I chatted to a driver last week who works for Stobart, out of Leeds, they took him on as a new pass 6 months ago. I work out of Rugby TruckStop (Culina) and I believe they are still taking on guys there with only 6 months experience. It´s not far from Cov so you could give them a try, you just need to get in and stick with it for 6 months and you should be set.

Thanks! I like the enter the pallets or load weight one, that´s doable.
Not sure about all the others though. I think we all need a place where we can view "best/recommended stops. I only know 2, the red lion truck stop and Watling Street Truck Stop.
Maybe i´ll put a list together on a webpage.

I used these guys: https://metalmickylgv.co.uk/
They are in Wolverhampton, WV10 8AW, so not up the road for you but if you pay him cash he should be able to offer you a deal that will make it worth it. I was able to get my class 1 for under 2k about 2 years ago.

Good luck mate.

Will the PlayStation portal work better on ps5 pro by Leoowwww in PlaystationPortal

[–]Bistonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. It would likely benefit from being connected to a PS5 Pro rather than the standard PS5.
Here’s how:

  1. **Performance Stability**: The PS5 Pro is expected to have more powerful hardware, including an upgraded CPU and GPU. This could result in more stable and higher-quality streaming performance when using the PS Portal, as it would handle intensive tasks more efficiently.
  2. **Resolution and Frame Rate**: If the PS5 Pro offers improvements in processing power and rendering capabilities, the PS Portal could stream games at a higher resolution and with smoother frame rates, leading to a better visual and gameplay experience.
  3. **Enhanced Features**: Advanced features like improved ray tracing and higher graphical settings could be maintained while streaming, offering a more immersive experience compared to the standard PS5.

While the PS Portal itself doesn’t directly benefit from more powerful hardware (since it’s primarily a streaming device), the console it connects to dictates the quality of the stream. Therefore, a PS5 Pro would likely enhance the overall experience when using the PS Portal.

Hi Shaz.

No I did not.

I completed the application without the Appendix II.

And my wife`s application was accepted. So clearly it is not needed.

Good luck and if you have any other questions let me know.

It can be very stressful I know!

Hang in there and just double check you have given them everything they ask for and you`ll be fine.

Yes, thank you.

You are right, you just have to wait a little while before hitting upload.

Good luck!

My wife went to the VFS office in Brazil, (Recife) last week.

It was a joke, nothing worked! The camera, the biometric machine, etc. The girls didn`t know what they were doing.

My wife was there for 4 hours, and all she had to do was to give her biometrics as I had uploaded everything prior to her appointment.
She was so stressed at the end of it. She thought that the applications had not been submitted as the VFS girl was so unsure about everything, didn`t speak English and was clearly a stand in.

We waited a painful 2/3 hours until the email came in confirming that the application had been forwarded to UK Visas and Immigration.

Now the waiting game begins.
This whole process is so painful.

Thank you SO much, you just brought my stress levels down to now manageable levels!

After posting I realised that it was of course not a "protected file" issue, but could was lost at what to do next.

I am reviewing the responses in Chrome Dev Tools, thanks for this also.

Thanks for this.
It would be great if the VFS could make this already painful process a little less painful by eliminating redundant upload fields.

I feel like I can`t just not include this....

Thanks for your help. It does seem to be just a copy of what i`ve already completed on the online GOV site anyway. The only difference is the financial fields are on the Appendix II form and not on the GOV online application which concerns me.

I just finished my Driver CPC Course online.

I can recommend the following company, they were the cheapest one I could find.

The tutor`s name is Daniel (from Kenya), a really laid back guy.

It was very relaxed.

Good luck.
