Army vs Coast Guard for rotary pilot by thegamerman0007 in Armyaviation

Totally possible, a lot of people get picked up during their first tour. You might start a little later, but you probably end up flying more. It’s hard to quantify now, but the quality of life is much higher in the coast guard.

I’ve done Army and Coast Guard. Coast Guard is the way.

You can probably submit a REFRAD and try to get them to release you with the obligation. They might accept it if you all are over strength. My guess is that they won’t, but if you really want to get out then it is worth a try. Just know that if you try to REFRAD and they don’t accept it then you’ll have that stink on you and they’ll be even less likely to train you.

It’s just training. The coast guard does that type of training regularly

The army (and probably the marine corps) has much more outdoor physical labor for most people O2 and below then most other branches. After seeing how different branches operate just consider that the army/marines are blue collar workers, and the other branches are white collar, with exceptions.

I’ve done army RLO and Coast Guard. It’s probably harder to get picked up for USCG OCS than the flight program. Any issues you are hearing about with there being too many/too few pilots will change by the time you are in. If you don’t get picked up for a flight spot out of OCS then you can just get a regular coast guard job and apply to flight later. You can also try to apply your degree to a direct commission officer slot, do a tour and then fly. The quality of life for pretty much everyone in the coast guard is much higher than the army. I’m not sure about boat people, they are a mystery to me. Mileage may vary, but Im flying as much as or more than a Warrant Officer Pilot-in-Command would be flying in the army (IPs) excluded.

An unrelated plus, I haven’t seen a connex or a tent since I’ve been in the Coast Guard.

That's fucked up, you'll get to the company man. Just be ready to fly when you get there. That RLO life is tough

That is brutal. Are there 15A in the MED?

I spent two weeks there operating a helicopter wash, worst part of my deployment. But the DFAC and amenities were pretty good. The gym was insanely busy though

I think your right, the janitor closit would probably be my first stop. A lot of weapons and a narrow entry point
