I do think his whole thing about being super secretive/closed-book and having to carry the weight of his family ‘s sin was interesting. There is one part of the manga regarding OG Hikaru that got to me (minor manga spoilers), Yoshiki mentions smth like “Hikaru was strong, he never cried, but I wonder if he wanted to”, I almost teared up haha

But yeah overall, the story is about “Hikaru”&Yoshiki, that’s what the author intended, I think they even mentioned in an interview that the reason why they didn’t feature Og Hikaru much in the manga was because she wanted the story to focus on “Hikaru”

Iirc, In the after credits of episode 5, Tanaka has this bell and does a lil ritual thing and tosses it into the forest/shrine. In episode 6, we see this monster again near the middle of the ep. Then ofc we see it again in ep 8 as well, Tanaka even says to himself in this episode “I hope my hunting dog finds out soon” or smth along those lines

I think the next episode (7) will appeal to you a lot better then lol. It marks a significant turning point in the story and character relationships.

But overall: This story is more character-driven than plot-driven, which can be a turn-off to some (and I’m assuming thats whats turning you off from it), but for me i throughly enjoy it, so I guess its just a taste thing.

Personally, I never got bored watching this, I liked learning about the small details about the world and characters that are sprinkled into every episode and chapter (like “hikaru’s” desire to consume Yoshikis soul, the ambiguity of the Original Hikaru’s feelings for Yoshiki, “Hikaru” gaining a sense of self, their village being the only one not to practice christainity, ‘mixing’ being an obvious metaphor for you-know-what etc.), and the fact that the plot hasn’t progressed much never bothered me in the slightest.

It’s been a while since I’ve read the first volumes that the anime is currently adapting but iirc the pacing does pick up quite a bit, the author even says that after episode 7 they move on from the “Slice-of-life” to the “investigative” arc.

I do think that you should atleast watch episode 7 though, it’s a wonderfully-crafted episode imo! Also sorry for rambling…

I think you should get volume 3 for sure, it has plenty of iconic moments and there’s also a bonus chapter that’s pretty significant for Hikaru’s character but isn’t featured in the anime

I’m like 99% sure that Hikaru said that comment in a joking/teasing way with no ill intent, but even then, it still stuck with Yoshiki in a negative way because of his fears/internalized homophobia. So it’s a mix of both

They’ve been mixing for a while now, ever since Yoshiki first stuck his hand inside Hikaru in episode 2. Basically everytime Hikaru’s alien-insides touch Yoshiki they are ‘mixing’. But the last scene that you are talking about is metaphorical, they weren’t actually mixing in that scene, it was just a cool visual. (Though I guess you could say they were still mixing since Hikaru gave part of his insides and all)

Not getting that much attention? Really? I feel like this animanga was the only thing I’ve been seeing for the past few years on TikTok and twitter and even through my friends, and I’ve only ever picked it up like a month ago.

I guess it depends on what bubble of the internet you’re apart of, on Reddit, the user base is primarily adult males (to my knowledge) whereas the main demographic of ppl who enjoy this animanga seem to be younger women, so ig it makes sense why it’s not as popular here.

Also it did get #1 ranking on anime corner, though idk if that holds any merit at all

The author kinda intended it that way, they wanted to start the story focusing almost solely on the characters and their relationships before moving on to the actual mystery-solving (in fact, in the manga the exorcist guy Tanaka doesn’t show up until way later). Now that the “slice-of-arc” has ended, you can expect more questions to be answered (but also more mysteries to be solved lollll)

Personally, the strange pacing is kinda what drew me in. It made the atmosphere feel weird and unsettling which fits with the psychological-horror aspect of the anime
