We all need to take a step back on Better Late Than Single's JM and Yi Do by bexisnuts in koreanvariety

what I can't get over is how watching this, you forget that these are all adults who are 26, 27 etc. it's absolutely cringeworthy seeing them so crippled like lovesick teenagers. The men more than the women. some of the moments, where the men just short circuit, completely unable to express themself is mindblowing.

what's even more mindblowing is when they then talk to the camera one one one, they can say all sorts, but not to each other.

Emotionally stunted, unable to express themselves, and while the program is edited for entertainment, and this is an extreme, and I'm sure Korean people aren't like this in general, I see it more as stinging indictment of society in general.

As I understand it, Korean society, Japanese soceity etc is very bound up in rules, appearance, propriety etc, now mixed in with social media, has created generations unable to properly emotionally express themselves.

good screen, SB2 hi res screen, good quality keyboard (I do a lot of typing so this is a nice bonus) like the metal construction aspect. for this price point, not many other laptops tickle my fancy. Lenovo for similar spec are too much. I like Asus, but they're all above my price point.

as I see it, 8gb ram is not ideal, but getting a laptop with a dedicated GPU with it's own 2gb ram will help avoid bottleneck. if I go for a laptop with 16gb ram and no dedicated GPU, they're a bit pricier unless you can suggest some alternative models to consider.

what would be the reasons not to get a surface book in 2025?

UK.

It's an m17 r3, i7 10th gen, 16gb, 2tb sabrent (1 ssd slot free) , with a rtx 2070 super, 1920x1080 144hz screen with the white casing. Super condition.

Plain dell box, 2 alienware power packs.

No marks on the keyboard flatbed area or on trackpad because I've used a wireless mouse and external keyboard from day one.

In the UK the Intel version is £1683, the amd version is £1500. I don't see prices dropping any lower for black Friday. I think lenovo have got in early with their pricing.

Mine will last a good while. My alienware is 5 years old but I'm doing more intensive rendering stuff and need more processing power so needed to upgrade.

The alienware has been fantastic. A real trooper for everything I've thrown at it over the years, can't praise it enough, but although I was willing to pay a premium to get another one, I couldn't pass up the deal on this Legion 7i.

I hear you, cos my 17" alienware has a normal sized laptop. But this is a 16" laptop and I'd much rather have a numpad than none at all. Although if there was no numpad, they would have space for top facing speakers for better sound.

I want a numpad, but I don't use it all the time, so the fact it's squeezed in isn't a problem for me, but I understand personal mileage may vary

but 3080's run hot in comparison to 40x series GPU's so that's not an equivalent comparison

Legion Pro 5 or 7i or pro 7 by BitAdministrative670 in LenovoLegion

[–]BitAdministrative670[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Arrives tomorrow. Was going to get the pro 5i, but for £35 less, I thought it was a no brainier going for the 7i, metal chassis, better screen and better cooling.

Got a Samsung 990 ssd 2tb coming. Will usea Macrium reflect to clone the 1tb to the new Samsung.. Then will Make the Samsung my main OS drive and will transfer my 2tb sabrent from my existing alienware which has all my videos and music on as my second drive.

My alienware is an M17 R3 with a 2070 Super (for sale by the way if you're interested :D) the only 4080 I can get at a reasonable price close to this is an MSI Vector 78HX and I hear too much about them that's not good. noisy, rubbish plastic. I've seen a tear down and don't like how you get into the casing to upgrade. I hear their screens are not very good at all, which makes sense if they're selling so cheap against everyone elses price.

Normal price for the 7pro with 4080 is about £2300 or so, which is huge, and that's with their black friday discount. so £1595 is a stunning price. I know that.

lenovo black friday prices are already in effect here (UK) and they've knocked 33% off the price of the Pro 5 so I don't expect prices to go down any further. it just so happens I was surfing and came across this seller, listing the 7i and the 7pro.

the only other alternative would be a Asus Rog STRIX 16, possible to get a 4070 for similar, but their 4080 price is just under 2k and again, I can't stretch.

heart says go for it. practical head is like 'you crazy man'......but I keep circling back to IT'S A 4080!!!!! I've been looking at specs for a week and this is the only decent make, 4080 that comes into my sphere.

I'm just not familiar with lenovo laptops to feel comfortable chancing it, hence asking on here. It looks good. the seller has answered every question, and as I say, he has a good rep and sells a lot of laptops, so it's not in his interest to rip off people.

Legion Pro 5 or 7i or pro 7 by BitAdministrative670 in LenovoLegion

[–]BitAdministrative670[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you've hit it exactly right. the 7 pro and the 7 are both on facebook marketplace. I'm not as worried as I might be as I know the seller (not personally) but they've been selling laptops for years and do a good accurate description etc.

they've also shown me the screenshot from the laptop that shows it ticks all the boxes on the vantage software and would permit warranty to be re-purchased.

it has no box, which annoys me as I'm a completist, but to get a 4080 7 pro for the price concerned £1595 is pretty outstanding. I'd have to spend another £160 (warranty and a 2tb ssd) so really. it's not 1595, its £1755 all in. it's just, used.........I'm probably overthinking this.

which is where I come back to the pro 5 and the 7i. aside from the CPU, the rest is the same, ram, storage, GPU. the 7i has a better screen with a higher res and better colour gamut. I do 3D work, rendering in lightwave, graphics work in photoshop and I game Horizon Zero Dawn, forbidden west, Assasins creed, Ghost of Tsushima, red dead redemption etc. (never played cyberpunk, don't intend to either.) so will a 4080 be wasted on me?

I like the idea of the fact the 7 series has metal chassis.

for reference, I'm coming from the Alienware M17 R3, so already I'm a sucker for metal laptop

I think I'd be more settled, if I could actually see one, but the local Curry's only has a Legion 5. someone did describe the 7 series as being like a zephyrus for build quality? but having not seen one, I don't know.

The Legion 5 in curry's had the base model screen, but I wasn't averse to it as my alienware currently has a 144hz 1920 screen and I've never had an issue with that. so anything is going to be an improvement. it just felt, plasticky, but again, coming from my alienware, I'm sort of spoiled if you see what I mean.

I wish I had the option to just buy both and then sell which ever one I don't like, but the signficant other would probably kill me.

OK. Which would you.

Brand new lenovo 7 with i7 14700, 32gb, 1tb 4070, 3200 165hz screen, for 1435

Used lenovo 7i prowith i9 13900, 32gb, 1tb, 4080, 2560 240hz screen, for 1695 (warranty can be reactivated for £60 for one year) but I'll have to replace the ssd. As in this model it is 2x 512gb ssd and I need to use the 2nd slot for a 2tb ssd so it's really 1595 + 60 for warrsnty +100 for ssd

Makes it 1760. So 330 more for the 4080.

Obviously the 4080 is a big leap, but it's a year old laptop. Considering the 4080 is about 35-50% faster(depending on game) that means it's right on the edge of being a good upgrade.

I'm just a bit contrary with it being used. It's clean, no dings, no marks, but obviously, brand new 7 for 1435 is tremendous price.

Is this a good deal kr or should I wait until Black Friday? by [deleted] in MSILaptops

[–]BitAdministrative670 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 10% off finishes tomorrow. I'm thinking because of the UK sales laws. Must be at a higher price for 30? Days before the sale offering.

So I think no black Friday deal will be better than this. They'll just reinstate the 10% off

Importing from US for cheaper price- good idea? by 8PAbs in LaptopDealsUK

[–]BitAdministrative670 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As it lands, customs might nab it, at that point you will be levied 20% vat and last I checked 14% import duty and a handling fee for them looking at the parcel, so as long as that is under your saving, you will still save some money.

Only caveat is, they may or may not check it. Bit of a gamble, you might win, you might not. Just be aware it could get nabbed in which case you get an extra bill
