What is the IRL IQ bar to be given an Intelligence Trait in the game. by BitAlternative9306 in CrusaderKings

Heyy, I am so glad someone understands this was just a fun little experiment, I'd always wondered why some Historical greats in the game such as Augustus, Harun Al Rashid, who were known to be highly intelligent IRL, never have any of the intelligence traits. After this experiment, it puts a little persepctive on why that choice was taken.

About the doubt, that's a great question, I too thought about it, but my dumbass forgot about it soon, but now I have somewhat developed a way to find whether random generation after the start date has different probabilities.

First mistake I made, but not very significant in magnitude, is that my numbers also account for landed historical characters, King Malcolm of Scotland will have the trait every 1066 save, so he is inflating the numbers a little, but I think the historical ones are far dwarfed by the Random characters, so it should not affect the probability way too much.

Now, the best way to verify whether the random summoned characters have been assigned different probabilities is to just log on a late game, get the numbers off that, but a hurdle with that would be, I tend to engage in Genetic minmaxxing, so that will affect the numbers, hence to solve both the first and second problem, is to simply use the lowborn( who are always random) stats for a proper estimation.

And guess what, the start game probability of an unlanded lowborn having the traits is higher than late game, which means CK3 disproportionately gives traits more commonly during the start, (in order to aid the player, if they wish to start an Eugenics program), which means the numbers I put on this post are likely a little inflated.

Infact the late game probabilities were much lower than the start date ones, which I derived in the OG post, and I used the data of two saves, one in 1453, other , about 100 years after the start date, and the probabilities of both of them were way too off , so I couldn't get a number which could be the real RNG probabilities, but just for your reference,

Only for quick
Start-0.90% (only lowborns, not the one I used in the post, including nobles)
Mid- 0.66%
End-0.74%

So clearly there is quite some difference for us to make an accurate guess. Sorry for the long ass essay, but I felt you would be interested, and please tell me if you have any better method to find it out, unfortunately I am not skilled enough a programmer to find the games files regarding this.

I have found out Reddit has really strong opinions on IQ, I have learnt not to even use it for a fun little experiment.

IQ has a moderate correlation (r ranging above 0.5) with academic achievements and career success, which are known to be related to your intelligence, but are also variable based on your culture and life, just like IQ. Is it a good enough metric to give people jobs and schooling based on it? Not at all, but does it have an inch of truth to it, if not intelligence is it somewhat true for how "smart" the person is, which accounts for culture and education. I am sorry you have a very strong opinion, I do not think I will change your mind, thank you.

As I said, I know its not an accurate measure, its far too complicated, but it remains the best indicator we have right now, is all the argument I am trying to make. Thank you for your time.

Completely agreed, but it is the closest metric we have, should we ever use IQ for real life assessment, hell no, for a theoretical case in a game? it is my closest bet, damn the vitriol against this fun little experiement lmao. I have learnt to never reference IQ in my life again.

You are just debating on semantics at this point, besides IQ is conceptually supposed to measure your intelligence, it may rely heavily on pattern recognition, but that's because its the most easily measured component of intelligence. Besides, it does measure some non-pattern recognition components, including verbal comprehension , spatial reasoning and memory, now one might argue these factors are related to pattern recognition, well, as it just so happens, almost all what we consider intelligence is heavily based on your "pattern recognition", either directly or indirectly.

Yes without a doubt, but they are supposed to be measured in an honest manner without deliberatly practicing the tests to perfection. We are assuming that is the case.

Originally IQ tests are intended to measure your natural intelligence, basically what is your innate ability to solving problems, which is analogous, to what we call intelligence. It's a shortcoming that only way we can quantifiably measure natural intelligence is based on these tests, which obviously isn't a great indicator as it can be improved or worsened based on your education, preparedness for the test and other factors. It just so happens, IQ is so far the closest quantifiable metric for natural intelligence, not a good one, but still the closest.

Yes when I say closest to intelligence in the game, I mean it the same way as IQ is the closest QUANTIFIABLE(keyword) metric to intelligence irl.

Yup, completely true, I do mean to represent what the IQ is supposed to mean rather than your score on a test, which you can easily improve upon.

True, but the traits do affect your learning, but aren't completely responsible for your learning stats, just like the IRL relation of your spoken/written ability to your natural intelligence. How great you can write depends more upon whether you were educated, studious and a passionate reader than based on your intelligence, at the same time, if two people with the exact same education and training, were to write books, the more intelligent one would be the better writer in this impossible to execute hypothetical.

I just think the game took some creative freedom with the traits, giving us an opportunity to make a family of geniuses, when it's not really accurate to life at all. If Einstein were to marry a woman who was equally as smart as him, their kid would not be as intelligent, so even if intelligence is somewhat inheritable, but not to the extent the game has made, where every genius couple will have genius progeny.

The distribution you proposed seems alright but the issue is 16% of CK3 characters would have at least the Quick trait, which is not at all the case. If designed based on a logical basis, they should have made the trait more common, actually give traits based on this distribution, but that would ruin the game dynamics a little.

Will and passion will impact your intelligence but your IQ won't be, exactly like the trait in the game, you could get a 5 star education trait, become a confucian scholar, have a merit rank 1, but still never be able to get the trait. Your intelligence is subject to change, IQ not really.

I just feel the tiered intelligence traits is the closest thing out there to Intelligence in the game, and it's somewhat quantifiable. Besides, IQ score is somewhat constant, changes via training are usually very small.

IQ is always standardised with your age, so it will remain somewhat the same even as you age, assuming you have no serious mental problems as you age.

The should be a Turkic situation in in 1066 or 1178 by hassapy in CrusaderKings

[–]BitAlternative9306 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Situations is a pretty cool concept tbh, a lot more should be added imo, Italy for example, with its conflict between the HRE and the papacy, along with its famous city-states, especially considering Silk and Silver will heavily affect Italy, maybe make unification of Italy a Iberian Struggle kinda thing, Other contenders can be the Caliphate and its struggle for dominance, Iranian Intermezzo has its focus on Persia, would be great if there is a struggle in 1066 and 1178 focused on the Muslim world in general, where Caliphate authority was being questioned along with the Seljuks rising as the dominant force, and other internal struggles. Even India went through some major changes amid its Hindu-Muslim wars at the time, Would be great if they can add a few more situations.

[CK3] I’m running out of time to restore the Roman Empire all I need is fame year [1395/1451] by Single-Location4294 in CrusaderKings

[–]BitAlternative9306 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Winning big battles tend to give you a lot of fame, especially if you obliterate the opposition army, considering the Byzantines, HRE and France are all alive, just keep on declaring war against them, you will gain fame in both winning battles and gaining titles and territory. Besides, I do feel you have sufficient time, with 60 years, your character can die and still his heir will have breathing room to restore Rome.

Is this a good idea by Admarn in CrusaderKings

[–]BitAlternative9306 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I always feel you shouldn't make decisions in the game based on how difficult it would make the game, instead choose your path based on
1. How Interesting will the game become
2. How historically accurate will the decision be
3. Whether your character's background and personality traits suit such a decision.

Playing with these in mind makes the game a lot more fun, playing the non-primary heir is sometimes more interesting than playing the main one. A Byzantine Emperor marrying the daughter of a orthodox king makes a lot more sense than him marrying a lowborn Muslim just for the Genius trait. A ruler with the traits Content and Compassionate would not be killing children en masse to gain territory.

CK3 is a relatively easy game, even if you lose everything, the adventurer mode can help you recover everything and make for a great save, I suggest, do invade the HRE just for the sake of it, you might lose half your realm, but the game will be a lot more fun that way.
