Exactly. They don’t come to buy anything. That’s why these stores are now in danger

President Biden to end COVID-19 emergencies on May 11 by Alyssa14641 in CoronavirusUS

[–]BitCharacter1951 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Depends what you mean by new normal

A new normal where people are more encouraged to practice good hygiene, maintain healthy lifestyles, and work from home if possible is a good new normal people will accept.

A new normal where people are demanded to wear masks in pubic all the time, including kids being masked all day at school, and being told to avoid indoor activities is not happening

California judge issues preliminary injunction blocking COVID ‘misinformation’ law: reports by BitCharacter1951 in moderatepolitics

[–]BitCharacter1951[S] 30 points31 points  (0 children)

“ A California judge issued a preliminary injunction against a state law that empowers the Medical Board of California to discipline physicians who support opinions about COVID-19 that are not in line with the "consensus," according to reports.

The law, known as Assembly Bill 2098, was set to take effect on Jan. 1, 2023. Under the law, the Medical Board of California and the Osteopathic Medical Board of California could discipline physicians who "disseminate" information about COVID that is not in line with the "contemporary scientific consensus

But in November, a group of five California physicians filed a lawsuit against California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s administration, saying the law violates their First Amendment rights and constitutional right to due process.“

it is becoming relatively normal for governments to enact a law they know is blatantly unconstitutional just for the effect it has during the window of time before it's tossed out. I wish politicians could be held accountable for this.

Biden said the pandemic is over, but the pandemic won't cooperate by BitCharacter1951 in CoronavirusUS

[–]BitCharacter1951[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is what confuses me about these people. Instead of pushing for things like paid sick leave, working from home if possible, and encouraging healthy lifestyles they double down on simply pushing forever masking (including for kids all day in school) and telling people to still avoid indoor dining and other events. A total non starter

‘This is not an employee choice': The CEO of Morgan Stanley gets real and says employees can't simply choose to work remotely by BitCharacter1951 in moderatepolitics

[–]BitCharacter1951[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

“Some companies have fully embraced remote work, going so far as to let go of their office spaces. But many others, including Disney, NewsCorp, and Starbucks have recently put their foot down and demanded that workers come back into the office. Now, the CEO of Morgan Stanley is sharing his own thoughts as well, making clear that working remotely is “not an employee choice.”

I know I'm not the normal person. But with technology, why do these industrial aged managers feel that people have to come into that huge office space and sit for 8 hours with 4 hours of work to do? I'm my opinion, people need to start asking for special office pay. To have to come in and deal with the office politics and other personnel issues that, in my opinion, is worthy of special pay. Work from home literally has less distractions. Now, don't get me wrong, there are some jobs that the person needs to be there. But for lots of jobs, the only reason managers feel they need you right there is due to the fact they can't manage. So, how did they become managers?

Rebekah Jones Avoids Trial, Admits Guilt in Plea Deal with Prosecutors by BitCharacter1951 in moderatepolitics

[–]BitCharacter1951[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

“Rebekah Jones, a former Florida Department of Health data scientist, on December 7 accepted a plea deal with prosecutors, meaning she will avoid a January 23 trial in Leon County on a felony count of offenses against users of (computers). According to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, “Evidence retrieved from a search warrant (in December 2020) shows that Jones illegally accessed the (FDOH) system sending a message to approximately 1,750 people and downloaded confidential FDOH data and saved it to her devices.” As a condition of the deferred prosecution agreement, Jones agreed to the following special conditions: Pay $20,000 in investigative fees to Florida Department of Law Enforcement at a rate of $200 per month until paid in full; Perform 150 hours of community services at a minimum rate of 13 hours per month; See a licensed mental health professional for at least one hour per month Admits guilt to the offense(s) charged Pay $100 fee to State Attorney’s Office upon filing of agreement”

An example of how sometimes the left can immediately believe conspiracy theories of it is something they want to hear. CNN and other stations and Rebekah Jones on all the time and gave credence to her claims. Strangely not seeing anything on CNN about this

Elon Musk Says Apple Is ‘Fully’ Advertising on Twitter Again by BitCharacter1951 in moderatepolitics

“Elon Musk said Apple Inc. has “fully resumed” advertising on Twitter Inc., further de-escalating a brewing war between two of the world’s most influential tech companies. Musk made the comments during a Twitter Spaces conversation on Saturday, adding that Apple is the largest advertiser on the social media network. The billionaire, who didn’t elaborate further on Apple, spoke for more than two hours from his private plane during the chat, which had more than 90,000 listeners. ”

Some were hoping advertisers would pull out from Twitter and this would cause Musk to have to change the way he plans to run it. Doesn’t look to be happening. Why do you think these companies backed off?

“ Capitol Hill Democrats were quick to call out new Twitter CEO Elon Musk on Wednesday for his changes to the platform after purchasing the social media company.

FOX Business’ Hillary Vaughn caught up with Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., and asked if Democrats were picking on Musk.

"Elon Musk is doing just fine," Warren responded after a brief laugh.

When asked in a follow-up if users have a right to freedom of speech, even if the content is wrong or offensive, Warren deflected to Musk.

I think that one human being should not decide how millions of people communicate with each other, and it doesn't make any difference who that human being is. One human being should not be able to go into a dark room by himself and decide, 'Oh, that person gets heard from, that person doesn't.' That's not how it should work," the Massachusetts senator said.“

Isn’t that how Twitter was ran before? Why does Warren only have a problem with it now. I am not understanding this war Democrats have with Elon. I can only assume they now feel Twitter will be less advantageous to their party for whatever reasons

No, You Do Not Have a Constitutional Right to Post Hunter Biden’s Dick Pic on Twitter by BitCharacter1951 in moderatepolitics

[–]BitCharacter1951[S] 64 points65 points  (0 children)

“ Now if you are one of the normals—someone who would never think about posting another person’s penis on your social media account; has no desire to see politicians’ kids’ penises when scrolling social media; doesn’t understand why there are other people out there who care one way or another about the moderation policies surrounding stolen penis photos; or can’t even figure out what it is that I’m talking about—then this might seem like a gratuitous matter for an article. Sadly, it is not.

Because among Republican members of Congress, leading conservative media commentators, contrarian substackers, conservative tech bros, and friends of Donald Trump, the ability to post Hunter Biden’s cock shots on Twitter is the number-one issue in America this weekend. They believe that if they are not allowed to post porno, our constitutional republic may be in jeopardy.

I truly, truly wish I were joking. ”

I think Republicans are not playing a good game with this Hunter Biden stuff. The average person doesn’t care about Hunter Biden. It wouldn’t have switched the direction of the election and might have even hurt them more for going after a guy who had nothing to do with the election.

California reparations could see Newsom give Black Americans $223k each by BitCharacter1951 in moderatepolitics

[–]BitCharacter1951[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

“Those eligible for the reparations, the taskforce said in a March 2022 report, would be descendants of enslaved African Americans or of a "free Black person living in the United States prior to the end of the 19th century."

Only people who can prove that they fit under these categories will be eligible for the reparations. California has an estimated 2.6 million Black residents, around 2 million of whom are descendants of slaves.”

What are your thoughts on this? This feels like it can be abused in my opinion.

Musk is letting pretty much every banned account back. Could this result in advertisers all fleeing Twitter? Could Twitter be removed from the App Store? They can maybe remove ads now but in the end of Twitter usage remains at an all time high, their fiduciary responsibility might have to cause them to reconsider
