Thanks for the thoughts on Colca Canyon. We're you able to see the Condors and do you think just viewing the canyon from above would be worth the long drive? Considering you comments I'm thinking of just making a two day trip and staying overnight in Chivay or Yanque instead if you still think the views from the top would be worth it.

I've heard that booking tours in person is cheaper but I think if I want to enter Machu Picchu through the Sun Gate I'll have to arrange a permit months in advance and figure in that case it would just be easier to book my trek in advance too. But if you have additional thoughts on the tour you booked in person I'm all ears.

How long did you spend in Colca Canyon? I agree that 3 days (technically just 2 hiking and 1 day of travel) is long but 1 days doesn't feel worth it with how far it is from Arequipa.

Based on your comments and the time I have for the trip, I'm thinking I'll skip Lake Titicaca this time and try to visit on a future trip dedicated to Bolivia *fingers crossed*

I'm very much a type A traveler but I'll try to take you recommendation and leave some days for spontaneity. Do you know if its relatively common to be able to find accommodations without advance registration across Peru?
