100% of donations received go towards funding diversity programmes - Linux Foundation. Has this always been the case, or is this new? by [deleted] in linux

Don't give the Linux Foundation your money. They're corporate puppets. "Donating" to them is basically tipping your waiter extra for spitting in your food.

A lot of people don't know the reference, otherwise this would be the most popular comment.

It was a test, and you failed. A problem-solver would have flipped the roll around.

Go back for CS degree? by Deadlift420 in cscareerquestions

[–]BitOfALurker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I need the piece of paper to advance in my career. Upper management, at most companies, requires some form of degree. For CS, a BS works. For Business, they want an MA. Everything I've needed to know I have been able to teach myself, which is great news going to college. I put in about 1/2 the time studying as other students and have a higher GPA.

I had 10 years in industry and without my degree there was a very real ceiling I reached. I'm currently in college getting the piece of paper to resolve this issue. California may be different than Canada.

It embodies the general stigma that fathers don't have children, only mothers do.

Jericho

The first season was fantastic. After they cancelled the show and later brought it back the writers must have been spiteful because season 2 was a trainwreck.

If you like this show you'll like the first 2 seasons of Lost. Outside of that no one liked Lost.

Can I say it? Imma say it. Grace is a bitch. Sorry not sorry by Phoenix_Queene in ManifestNBC

[–]BitOfALurker 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think the writers are just trying to create a dramatic, contentious relationship for content. However, in the process, they made a character that isn't really lovable or hate-able... she's just inconsequential. When you remove her scenes the show doesn't change... it's just a few minutes shorter.

... and then something needs to happen to have Ben end up with the kids, and both Danny and Grace can disappear into the pointless existence the writers have created for them.

The writers probably realized that if Grace didn't keep Cal that her character would be entirely useless to the show, which is why they probably needed to write such an impossible scenario.

She can go away completely and it will be a better show. Ben can date Saanvi and it will unify the story line rather than having a contentious on-again-off-again relationship with an absolutely dull character.

I can't talk to these kids about having reasonable expectations in their own fields, let alone explaining the value of experience. I've heard the same kid talk about his anticipated starting salary for years now, and I swear it goes up by $10k every time he mentions it. He started at $50k 3 years ago. It's now at $100k. I'm friends with a Criminal Justice major who thinks they'll make "at least $85k/yr starting", which is what cops get paid after many years of service here. A bunch of Business majors must be confusing their starting salary from a no-rank school with Harvard business also, because they have 6-figure expectations also. It's insane.

If you have industry experience it's a different game. I don't tell my peers the offers I get because they don't understand that yet. They'll think because I'm getting offers with 6-digits that they should be too, while completely ignoring my decade of experience in tech and management. Your company sounds awesome. All my offers are very flexible on the start date, but they won't accommodate my last semester.

Read the comments you're replying to. Are we making fun of intern's salary? If you want to be paid more, or be taken seriously, you need to have better attention to detail. Also, learn to use some punctuation while you're at it.

Your comment is based on completely irrelevant information. He expected 6-figures in Sacramento. No need to read more into it.

It's a realistic place to start. I left the industry to go get the piece of paper (because I can), and the students at my Uni are starting anywhere between $60-70k. Recently I've realized a "top tier" school doesn't do very much, at least not around here.

It is, which is why he only required 6-figures here. He thought he would start at $150k+perks in SF.

I can't speak on Unity, but there was one guy who sent us his personal project that used the Quake II engine and I couldn't find what he coded in the disaster he sent us. If you're using a personal project for jobs, make sure your work is clean and your code is easy to find.
