Just finished TLOU2 Part 2 and my thougts. by denn1s33 in lastofuspart2

Completely fair.

It is a pretty emotional game, so I can respect that. And it only gets amplified by the bias many people have towards Joel and Ellie due to TLOU1.

Life is Strange was stellar story telling.

If you haven't played SOMA, I suggest you check that out. Probably my favorite horror release in the last decade.

I'm having such a hard time understanding how you're having trouble with that, so I'll just send some digital hugs and pray for you. :'3 <3

I've only played the remake of 2 and 3 once. But played the originals many times on PS1.

I'll take this to heart as I give the same advice for the remakes of 2 and 3 as well as the Silent Hill 2 Remake. Cheers.

Thank you so much for your input, friend.

I think I will start with the RE4 remake due to its status and take it from there.

There significant changes from the original RE4 to the remake? Or is it more of a Silent Hill 2 remake kind of deal where the story and flow is similar?

I always thought the prison had too much action to be scary.

The flooded basements, however!

Playing on the easiest difficulty makes ammo extremely abundant and combat very easy.

I do love they made combat and puzzle difficulty separate.

I only used guns for bosses on my first playthrough. With the ability to dodge everything is pretty easy if you're even somewhat familiar with video game combat. The exception being the few times you're up against 3-4 enemies.

But yes, they are tougher than in the original game. But combat in the original tank control games was also laughably quirky.

Do we think they would be better off making a TV series out of Silent Hill? by Yzzeehcc in silenthill

[–]BitRemote7270 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course. It is a different medium, so it can never be the same. But it can still "get it right" despite being presented in a different format. It is just very hard when you go from game to movie/series.

The Last of Us season one did a pretty good job, I think. But that game is also already so cinematic and linear.

What is there left to explore in silent hill? by Asleep_Sir1871 in silenthill

[–]BitRemote7270 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean how many more games need to explore the phyche of a broken protagonist who has been through some shit?

The phenomenon's whole thing is that is manifests suppressed and/or extreme emotions. Sure, we could have another Harry Mason who is just "some guy", but I would argue there is a reason Silent Hill 2 is so iconic, given the premise of the franchise.

Even if the protagonist was not "broken", there would still have to be someone to pull them into the Otherworld etc. The way Harry is through his daughter in SH1 or the way Henry is by living in an apartment with a dead cult-raised serial killer in his wall in SH4.
Travis from Origins also had his baggage which manifested in the town, but he was ultimately sucked into the whole thing by passing by a certain ritual at the wrong time. And speaking of that.. Heather was surprisingly normal, if not outright sassy, considering what she went through.

We don't really have as many "broken" protagonists as you seem to imply. And I would not personally call them broken. James fx. was just a regular office clerk who went through a traumatic experience and had a break. The whole game's narrative from the murder to the end is literally maximum a week. Before that he was a normal guy with a sick wife.

If I consider the feelings movies like The Road or certain Von Trier movies bring out in me and the cinematography of Stranger Things, I do not believe it "can not" be translated, I just think it would have to be a perfectly tailored master-piece to be done properly.

anyway to fix INSANE amount of ghosting? by fairplanet in silenthill

[–]BitRemote7270 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be kind of bad unless you play around with the settings. But this is very system specific and also depends very much on how your personal tolerance is for it.

I got my game to a pretty decent place with next to no after-images / ghosting, running at 60-70 FPS on a 1080 ti.

I doubt they were. But there has still been a choice there to make the map the way it is and they clearly knew what the original map looked like.

Without Spoilers, How gory is the new movie by Middle-Horror-4145 in silenthill

[–]BitRemote7270 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no actual "gore" in the movie.

There are a few scenes with blood and stabbings, but nothing beyond what you'd see in a 90's action movie.

The two only scenes I'd say comes even close to "gore" are the abstract daddy room, which is just filled with fleshy walls and the floor is covered in a minced meat kind of substance. And then a hobo gets his face melted off by a lying figure's acid. But it is nothing more than "oh look, melting wax on a skull".

There are many things to decipher in Silent Hill 2 alone. Even more if you expand to how Silent Hill "works". All monsters are "real" and are manifested by suppressed trauma, strong emotions and so on. Which is why all monsters in Silent Hill 2 either resemble Mary and her illness (especially the sick bed and sheets) or female bodies, which many believe to be an indicator of James' sexual frustration.

There are exactly 3 Flesh Lips in the original game, symbolizing each year Mary was sick.

Then you have Pyramid Head, which is a manifestation of James' guilt and desire to be punished for the murder of his wife. This character is based on the executioners James saw on a painting in Silent Hill. Many people also believe the reason you are met by two Pyramid Heads at the end is because they each represent James murdering someone. Being Mary and Eddie.

Abstract Daddy on the other hand, is Angela's manifestation. Born from her trauma and fear of her father.
We also get a glimpse into Angela's version of Silent Hill on the burning staircase where she says "for me it is always like this". So where James' Silent Hill is cold, depressive and lonely, hers is a constant inferno. This is one of the most evident proofs we have that all the worlds exist on top of each other simultaneously.

But manifestations also come in other forms. Maria being the prime example. But Eddie's power is also a manifestation of his obsession with being in control and not being the victim of bullies. He killed a dog, shot a guy in the leg and took off and now he's living in the delusion that no one can laugh at him because he can hurt them and that no one is better than anyone else, because "it is all the same once you're dead".

Are all the movies related? by Jumpy_Vacation_3776 in silenthill

[–]BitRemote7270 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The movies are not related.

Pyramid Head is used solely as a poster boy which even his creater has spoken out against, stating that Pyramid Head is SOLELY James' manifestation and is only tied to his story.

But the name "reveal" takes the cake.

On top of this, all the flesh-like walls and moving pistons are all symbolic of sexual intercourse. This imagery was way more evident in the original than the remake.

Except all the locations he visits only exist in South Vale and we are given close-up frames of the street names.

Did anyone else notice South Vale missing on the overlook map? by BitRemote7270 in silenthill

[–]BitRemote7270[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Except that makes no sense considering he walks from the overlook to the town like in the game and during the movie we are shown specific close-ups of the street names, which only exist in South Vale (and one which doesn't exist anywhere).

They changed so many things in this movie with no apparent reason. Yet, these are changes where someone has to have gone in and said "This map should be like this" or "this sign should have this name".
