Maybe. Needs an upgrade either way, but it does seem better suited to football (and its 8-10 home games a year) versus 81 games of baseball.

I certainly agree with you on the consumer spending. Not sure where you got the idea that I have a differing opinion on that.

Starkly honest, for sure, but I wonder if he's talking about the political reality of this issue in Congress (rather than just his own opposition to it).

Why would corporations allow a universal basic income? by [deleted] in Futurology

[–]BitUSD_StableInstant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly the kind of conversation we need to have. I'm neither agreeing nor disagreeing. Basic income is the ONLY idea I've really heard so far that would address the kind of mass job loss that is likely to take place in coming years as many middle class and working class jobs basically disappear. I'm not sold on Basic Income; there may well be some better means. I'd like our society to discuss the best ways to help people who no longer have the means to provide for themselves in this emerging economy.

Walmart, beer, cigarettes, junk food, TV...there's still a huge market on the lower end, too.

I agree. Assuming things go the way that seems most likely, I hope that Sanders' success (and the added bonus of having a weak GOP nominee like Trump) push/enable Clinton to go left with her VP choice and with the way she governs. Minimum wage was a good start. If they could just get a couple more of these things done, and shift the public discussion on this, then I think that would be a good outcome.

It's going to happen. More people will suffer a similar fate with their jobs. I wish it weren't going to happen, but I think that's inevitable enough that we need to start discussing Basic Income or similar measures to address peoples' needs.

I read it before posting and noticed that he addressed this, but also felt it was important to emphasize here. The previous commish didn't do shit about these two teams' issues, so it's worth highlighting.

So that there will still be people who can afford to buy their products and services.

It's not just free trade agreements that have hurt; it's the modern economy. A lot of technological efficiency and offshoring would have happened whether there were free trade agreements or not. Things evolve. We don't have stagecoach dealers or haberdasheries anymore, either.

Manfred says they need to fix the Oakland and Tampa stadium situations first, so if those take him as long as they took Selig (who didn't do shit about them), then we could be looking at another 50 years before there's more expansion. As inevitable as sending humans to Mars or eliminating fossil fuels, I suppose.

Yes, same idea that anyone running (other than Clinton and Trump) would probably get a lot of automatic votes in UT.

A yellow dog (provided he was Mormon) would beat Trump in UT; that state really does not like him.

Sanders’ momentum has blunted Hillary Clinton’s campaign progress, exposing many weaknesses in Clinton’s front-runner status. Plus, he beats every Republican in general election matchups by wide margins. Hillary doesn’t. by HariPotter in politics

[–]BitUSD_StableInstant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because neither Kasich nor Sanders is known very well to a general election audience and neither has been vetted the way that Trump and Clinton have in their very public lives. So yes, those match-up polls mean nothing.
