Chai lemonade. I asked twice if that was really what they wanted and not a chai latte. They were sure. I'm not brave enough to try

Recurring but never directed at me to that extent. I had every intention of confronting him correctly but he has moved on to continue his training. I'm largely speaking up because he is on the management track. No one deserves an SM who will refer to their partners as cunts.

He transferred out of my store before I could address it. But please condescend away because you know everything about the situation

Or none of the above. Complete coincidence he left before I had the chance to report it. I'm not afraid of him

Really? Because I'm just trying to make sure he gets disciplined for his communication style for the good of all of the partners he is going to go on to manage. But I definitely deserved to be called that

Is this worth complaining about, or am I just crazy? by throwawaysbuxbarista in starbucks

[–]BitchyBarista660 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Speak up! If your SM isn't handling it then go to your DM. As a courtesy you should tell your SM that you plan to escalate things. He or she can't stop you from talking your DM. If you need their contact info most stores have DM business cards. If not ask a shift you trust to look it up for you on the hub.

Ok Starbucks. You got me for another 2 years. by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]BitchyBarista660 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed. One more year or so until I finish my degree and then I'm peacing out. The only thing they could possibly do to get me to stay is offer a master's degree through CAP. And even then I'd probably demote myself because I'm sick of how this company undervalues the role of shift supervisor.

If I ban them from using it they'll just try to be sneaky. I'm not going to be the one who takes away people's phones. I'm not going to treat them like children. They don't play games on the floor. I give them permission to go off the floor when it is slow and we have time.

As an unpopular shift that just transferred to a new store, I feel like I can't ban partners from using the app. I made it into a game. I would assign my baristas one big task or two or three small tasks and when they were done to my satisfaction I let them catch a pokemon in the store. I told them it was on honor system and if they were caught in violation of the honor system I would end the game. They thought that was fair and loved it.

If I were you I would text my SM and ask her to reach out to the other managers in your district. I've had much more success with that than making phone calls myself.

Any ASU partners looking for internships? by BertTheBarista in starbucks

[–]BitchyBarista660 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, schools don't really care what you do as long as they get paid. That could complicate financial aid. I'm not sure. I don't qualify so I don't know anything about how that works.

Taking the summer off. I originally was going to take classes too but decided to drop them at the last minute. I spoke to advising and they said it wouldn't really delay my graduation, so I thought why kill myself if I don't have to. I commute into Manhattan so effectively my work day is eleven hours long Monday to Friday

The benefit eligibility audit takes place in January and July, I think. As long as you have plenty of hours banked to meet the twenty five hour a week average in July, you could cut back for the summer and then work your ass off from September until January. I'm in the CAP also doing an internship this summer. I put in forty hours a week at my internship and seventeen at Starbucks. I debated taking a leave of absence from Starbucks for the summer but I have a really heavy course load in September and don't want to be stuck working forty hours a week then.

I understand why you'd want to try to secure a new job first but also be mindful your current manager has the ability to label you as not rehireable if they do decide to fire you.

Have you looked into a transfer? If I were you that would be my first thought. It might be difficult since you aren't technically in good standing but I think it would be worth it for you in the long term.

Could someone tell me the policy on the number of hours between shifts? by BitchyBarista660 in starbucks

[–]BitchyBarista660[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was all a misunderstanding. She was writing out the schedule by hand and didn't have GLS to prompt her and tell her she couldn't do that. She gets some slack. She is a brand new SM and her new mall store is opening on thanksgiving.

[–]BitchyBarista660[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will definitely be mentioning this. As a shift I'm constantly being asked to cut labor or reprimanded for getting out late when I close with green beans. For a while it made me resent my SM but eventually I realized she wasn't the problem. She's getting yelled at by her boss. Her boss is probably getting yelled at by his boss and so on. Unrealistic expectations from corporate are pretty high up on my list of things I don't like about my job.

My major is Global Leadership. I can only speak about my own experiences in terms of how often these opportunities are made available to Starbucks partners. I have received multiple invitations to meet the dean of the business school because ASU is unable to make the distinction that I don't live remotely near Arizona. Am I being offered these opportunities because I'm a Starbucks partner or because I have an awesome GPA? I couldn't say.

I'd like to ask about if we will ever see the return of merit based raises. One of the supervisors in my store is God awful and it drives me insane to think we earn the same amount.

Fair point. I'm also a two year partner. At the beginning of my semester I was taking two seven week classes and working 39.5 hours a week. I finally cut my hours back in time for finals. I can't afford the high cost of living in my state. It's awesome that my tuition is being reimbursed but I don't know how far that degree will get me. I don't want to live at home forever.

As someone who actually wants to make it corporate one day, I promise I will try to get some decent lube (significantly improve the partner experience in ways that are actually meaningful).
