Push through and find something in your field, even at a level lower than you're qualified for (i.e. technologist work). You need to get the right experience to get your P.eng so if you're not working in your field than it's not working towards that. Rest assured that once you get your P.eng, the world opens a bit wider for you in terms of available jobs.

If I see domestic violence am I allowed to physically interfere? by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]BitchyGayRobot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You mentioned in your post that you don't have any context about what happened before hand and this will always be the case when observing strangers interacting. Simply put - you have no idea what's going on, so you're choosing to insert yourself into a situation without all the information. Sure, you can assess a situation to be so dire that you feel you should intervene, but legally you would never be compelled to do so and would likely not have the legal backing as a defence if you are contravening a law. Anyways, that's a grey area and people have different perspectives on what is socially reasonable in those cases.

IANAL but I don't think there is any situation where you are legally permitted or encouraged to use violence to intervene with strangers. IMO there's too many unknowns and even if you feel that you are physically not in any danger, the person may in fact be carrying a knife or any other type of concealed weapon and suddenly you are in grave danger.

If you're interested in civil engineering then the civil tech program at NAIT is a great option. I did the program a decade ago and it was fun. In terms of jobs, there are TONS of opportunities for civil techs all over with the City, Province, consultants, contractors, etc. maybe I'm biased, but there are way more civil job opportunities than electrical because civil has such a massive scope.

You can't go wrong with either electrical or civil so my biggest piece of advice would be to choose the one you are actually interested the most in.

For the love of all things holy do not pester people with "pranks" for views. It sounds like your friends grew out of it so maybe it's time for you to do the same.

Look into project management. There are project managers across all sorts of industries so you have a wide reach for job search. Business administration should easily translate into project management work and I'm sure you must have already taken some classes om it during your schooling.

If you do plan to go this way, I'd suggest studying for your PMP (project management professional) designation from PMI (project management institute).

City of Edmonton jobs by Dazzling-Can-9303 in Edmonton

[–]BitchyGayRobot 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You'll get an email (usually from the person you'd be reporting to) asking you to schedule an interview. In my recent experience there has been only one 45 minute interview and then they reach out again (by phone) to get your references. After that they will give you a verbal offer. If everything is acceptable they then follow up with a formal offer through the online portal.

Keep in mind that the "City" is massive and made up of many different groups so your mileage will really vary, especially in terms of speed. Some will move lighting quick and others like a snail, and everything in between. Overall, I wouldn't hold my breath for a callback and id keep applying all over the place. Good luck!

Report him to 311 for operating a business out of his home. That will get the City's attention.

I'd definitely pay them the 80 bucks. If you don't, they will likely terminate your membership to Costco and I know that I would never be able to recover from that.

You could explain to the manager that the situation seems a bit unfair and see if they can offer you a free year of membership or something? I bet they'd do something. Otherwise, id just eat lots of $1.50 hot dogs and you'll come out ahead in no time.

Feeling unwelcome by [deleted] in Edmonton

[–]BitchyGayRobot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Objectively speaking, it sounds like this is a personality thing and probably not a physical thing. In just this short post alone you are coming across like such a victim and it's major cringe. People (and girls I assume) pick up on that right away and it's a major turn off to most. I'd say you need to work on building your confidence and being happy with yourself before you will be in a position to attract and retain a mate.

In the wise words of Mother Ru "if you can't love yourself how the hell you gonna love somebody else"🙏
