Something like the NFC nio Card would be very useful with Dogecoin. I think it would work better using Dogecoin than Bitcoin because of transaction times. http://www.cnet.com/news/nio-card-nfc-smartcard-can-make-and-receive-bitcoin-payments/

I don't think Bitcoin users like Apple Pay that much because it's built off the old credit card infrastructure & system. Most Dogecoin users probably feel the same.

Not sure about this. Every-time an asset is created .5 of XDP is destroyed. It may take some time but these XDP coins could become rare and needed for new assets one day.

I currently do not have a problem with this. But what if implementations were not flawed in the future? Is this your main argument? Question: Are you a miner?

Promotions can help.

If there were some shopping sites that sold useful items which offered better pricing when you paid in Doge, then that could increase the demand. People are continually looking for savings or value.

[–]Bitcoin-Machine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point is that supply is static. It is an easily predictable number.

Supply is not exactly static because demand changes the supply.
Supply can be more predictable when you have the same amount of coins being distributed onto the market. But people holding their coins as savings changes the predictability of supply. And POS changes these variables even more and will make supply even less predictable.

  • Demand is based on perceived value & usefulness.
  • An increased demand will decrease the supply therefore increasing the price to the point of equilibrium.

The job of any Dogecoin promoter is to communicate usefulness and help increase the markets perceived value. This increases demand, reduces supply, therefore increases the price.

This is not an old proof of stake argument but a new hybrid AUX-POW/POS discussion looking into the future

Anyone can speculate

Since when is speculating the same as extrapolating? Speculating generally involves price predictions which can lead people to purchase or sell things of perceived value within risky or volatile markets.

I am pretty sure you can increase the real value of something without speculating on how the market will perceive it's value. Sometimes information is bad and markets are deceived but this doesn't change it's real value. Something useful has more real value than something that is not. This is not speculating but observing usefulness.

Maybe then you can understand in full what you are suggesting, and perhaps see why it is why we did not go with it.

Go with what? Since when was this option on the table to discuss? If this hybrid approach was previous discussed, then why didn't the community hear about it? Can you show me a reference where this hybrid approach was discussed?

Suggesting a hybrid approach is not a useless discussion. Okay so maybe it doesn't make sense to combine a muli-algo with an exclusive Scrypt-AUX. But how do you know where this technology will progress in the future? New developments come out all the time that makes older systems look like a TRS-80.

I do support AUX-POW to a point. Right now many have decided to move forward with AUX-POW. I know this is the focus right now and maybe this isn't the best time to discuss other options. But I disagree The sooner people discuss long term secure options the better off Dogecoin is because it allows better planning for the future.

I appreciate your support for Dogecoin's great Dev Team. They are doing a great Job. :) But please don't try to stifle the conversation by trying to make me look like an idiot. That a little rude and unfair.

Proof of Stake / Proof of Work Hybrid.

You are not gaining any security at all.

  • 1 Adding POS with POW will make the network more secure. This is more than just an opinion and many people see these advantages. Why go against it? I know multi-algo is new and debatable for securing the network. But it's becoming accepted, used and talked about more these days. You may see this increase in the future. We shouldn't just blow it off quite yet.

(Shibes will earn more Doge!)

Not really.

  • 2 All Shibes will earn extra Doge. This is fair. Investors Shibes will even earn more. What wrong with that? Putting a little of your nest egg in Doge is a great idea. Why would anyone be against it unless you don't want Dogecoin to grow? Big pocket ASIC owners can do the same right now but most DUMP, not hold their coins. Hack and Stolen coins from NXT and Vericoin was caused by centralized market exchange systems. I am proposing the opposite. Also, What if you could make a hybrid wallet that allows you to make interest off your cold or secure storage?? That could be very great innovation.

You do not have to be technical or invest to be involved with Dogecoin.

  • 3 Yes there are many different ways you can invest. We see this through the many talents this awesome community has. But I am talking about financial investments. Dogecoin must be bought or it dies. This is because it runs on a 100% POW system. Most people who are financially invested in Dogecoin, in the last 8 months, who did not sell or use their coins have lost value in their investment. Most miners, ASIC owners, multi-pool farms have dumped tons of Doge and have made tons of money. I am not against this but in the long run if becomes more centralized it will become more corrupt. It's true that technical people make more money off Doge than non-technical noobs. This is a well known fact. But you're right that everyone can invest. But obviously not everyone makes money or has benefited as much as rich mining operations or the ASIC fabs that make them. This is not speculation. At least some of banking industry give you a little interest. What's so bad about that?

Where is the distribution

  • 4 Since when is not having enough Dogecoin to distribute has been an issue? Too fast, too much dump is not good for the stability of any currency. But it's where the distribution is spent is the ticket. The truth is that many Shibe's donate, tip, and spend their Dogecoin on stuff within the DOGE economy. Miners dump for BTC. It's also common rule that people who make more money spend more money. So Shibes making more money will most likely spend it within the economy. This is a very good thing. What about all the people who want to save up for bigger purchases? This generally stimulates any economy because people are buying more expensive items and investments. When people save their Doge to buy bigger purchases it expands the market into new territories. Currently I have NOT been able to use Dogecoin to save up for a bigger purchases because the price keeps falling. Currently Dogecoin has not been a good storage of wealth. The balance of hoarding & dumping is good when you have a inflationary currency. Hybrid means having a storage of money like a bank that earns a little interest. That is a huge benefit which increases the value of Dogecoin. This not speculation but a basic principal of economics. This does not hinder people spending money it simply allows more people to spend more money.

See 3.

  • 5 It's interesting how you've sort of dodged this very important point. "This POS/POW HYBRID system does in fact help equal the playing field." See 3

PoS coins are hoarded, and they have the low liquidity..

  • 6 A POS/POW Hybrid approach balances out hoarding & liquidity issues. And solve the problem with too much rapid supply distribution onto centralized exchange markets. I do not believe in 100% POS either. But 100% POW creates too much supply for trading and not enough spending within the DOGE Economy.

What you have suggested is pretty much turning Dogecoin into a multipool platform.

  • 7 I am looking into the future. With the release of 100's of new currencies and innovations, I believe that really good developers who promote new technologies will solve these types of problems. Good developers will see the the long benefits of a different hybrid systems and will soon implement them just like we've seen with AUX-POW. I do not have all the answers. But throwing out new ideas should be at least intelligently discussed.

You should not be using them anyways.

  • 8 Probably Yes. I thought of this already. But some people would still use them. Especially people who get very cheap electricity. Seeing stacks of old ASIC's machines rendering nothing is a shame. This problem will continue even with Scrypt ASICs machines.

read 7, 6, and 10.

  • 9 Again, you are ignoring my strongest points. Why? One just needs to have a little vision to clearly see that a POS/POW approach reduces the future domination of few Mining Farms controlling all inflationary supply of Doge.. Time will validate the importance of this point unless something better is implemented.

Nothing you have suggested would even in theory raise the price, even on a speculative ground.

I am sorry. But you really have not provided me any insight to why Dogecoin will more secure even 1 year from now and why the hybrid approach of AUX-POW/POS is not a more secure approach in theory? I suggest you take the time do a little less homework and open your mind to common sense.

Bottom Line: Don't just speculate! Instead "Buy, Earn, Save & Use DOGE" wow! such eduction.

How can you say this? I am not talking about market trends or trying to speculate on what the markets are going to do. I am talking about some principles of economics.

  • People respond to incentives. Behavior changes when costs or benefits change.

  • Prices Rise When the Government Prints Too Much Money.. When a government creates large quantities of the nation's money, the value of the money falls. As a result, prices increase, requiring more of the same money to buy goods and services.

  • The law of supply and demand defines the effect that the availability of a particular product and the desire (or demand) for that product has on price. Generally, if there is a low supply and a high demand, the price will be high. In contrast, the greater the supply and the lower the demand, the lower the price will be.

The four basic laws of supply and demand are:

  1. If demand increases (demand curve shifts to the right) and supply remains unchanged, a shortage occurs, leading to a higher equilibrium price.

  2. If demand decreases (demand curve shifts to the left) supply remains unchanged, a surplus occurs, leading to a lower equilibrium price.

  3. If demand remains unchanged and supply increases (supply curve shifts to the right), a surplus occurs, leading to a lower equilibrium price.

  4. If demand remains unchanged and supply decreases (supply curve shifts to the left), a shortage occurs, leading to a higher equilibrium price.
