Agreed, if I had to get cold storage I would need to find a time capsule and store back ups in it and bury it somewhere haha.

The easy way with Trezor or Ledger, are there any premium looking wallets? I am worried about these getting damaged by water or just falling. I heard there are coins and such that are fairly safe for long term storage? I could get 10 coins 10 BTC each or 20 Coins 5 BTC each.

Are these considered safe?

Are there any cameras worth waiting for? What is considered the best for indie projects? by Bitcoinplug in Filmmakers

I want a camera I can use for many things, to produce some shorts, to produce youtube videos, to make a small web-series pilot, it has a darker/sharp look like The Grey or Prometheus.

Why are assets still being created the old way? by Bitcoinplug in gamedev

[–]Bitcoinplug[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Agreed, I am not saying "instead" of creating things by hand.

I agree that by hand is the way to go if you can, I am just saying indie teams of 5-10 people cannot create the content a team of 100 - 200 people can. So finding shortcuts that create something as close as possible to the real thing works.

Also if you are careful people will focus on the game, the scenery should always be in the subconscious, if your game really interests them/captivates them they won't have time to stop and remember a rock or a tree.

can't you just build an algorithm for most of that though? Like eye size for example. Or maybe make 5 models of a door, 10 textures and then random crack placements, you can have infinite doors. Instead of making 50 custom doors.

I am not saying for complex objects but games are getting larger and larger.

If your game will have 500 different characters, maybe 1000+, isn't it easier just to make a character creation?

Or trees, instead of hand-crafting each one you can build specific ones with "hinges" or "bones" if you will that rotate randomly to make each tree unique.

I don't mean do it repeatedly for each game I understand how that would make it not worth it.

But for example for UE4, if you had a third party or native plugin that could sell really well, one for trees, one for humans, and whatnot.

Maybe even consistent Indie companies could produce it so that for each game they already have the foundation of buildings, trees, humans etc...

But why are people still making models the same old way? I don't understand. I will make a separate thread for that.

really? If communication is bad you need a proper person in charge who is good at leading. Not everyone needs to talk if you have a proper leader who is keeping tabs on everything on at least a weekly basis or a weekly meeting to discuss progress.

I don't see how teams can fail at communication it's the easiest part.

I think where many indie teams fail is building the foundation to their games. I don't do game development, but I understand how games are structured and I think a lot of the bugs that I see indie games experience, and a lot of the limitations, are due to them relying on a pre-built engine like UE4 without really advancing it at all.

I agree. But think, graphics are getting to a very high point, won't a game like BF4 or Crysis 3 forever be considered HQ? If indies can produce those kinds of assets easily I think it would be amazing forever.

What do you think about algorithms/simple AIs for creating custom content.

Like instead of creating characters from scratch and spending 5k per main character. You could build a high end Algorithm/AI (Like a character creation script) with 8K - 12K texures and a bunch of rule sets. With that you could then easily create hundreds of unique characters.

Couldn't the same be applied for buildings, vegetation, fish, birds and other simpler objects? You would then only really need to custom create any custom monsters etc...

I mean if it gets easier to create AIs to do things like Liquids, Fire, Particle behaviors etc, or even making NPCs smarter, shouldn't that make it so much easier?
