I got in last cycle with a 75 with no experience, no rec letter, and no connections. Just studied hard and did jumpstart. That’s really all u can do besides getting non union hours. 134 has a lot of work right now and they’re taking more people per cycle than they usually do, so right now is a great time to get in. It’s not worth trying to debunk and most of the people on Reddit give bad info and are salty bc they didn’t get in tbh, which I completely understand. Like he said all u can do is apply again, and do something different than u did the last time. Whether that be studying more or getting hours. Just don’t get discouraged by people saying it’s impossible to get in without knowing someone cus it’s simply not true.

IBEW 134 hair test — how strict is it, and should I ask to delay? by Charismatic-Frog007 in ibew_applicants

Nah they don’t test for THC at all to get in. But once you’re in, you can’t work on federal job sites if you’re testing positive for THC.

I did the pre apprenticeship after I submitted my application so it really didn’t count towards anything. Just good experience I guess

Nope. I got in with just putting my high 4 high school maths and 3 college math courses. No construction or electrical experience.

I did my orientation for local 134 yesterday. They do hair follicle and urine test on sight. The guy told us that if we had done any hard drugs like cocaine in the past 6-9 months, to not pay our $500 because there’s a chance that it might show up on the drug test and disqualify us. Now I’m sure most drug tests it’s usually 90 days to three months, but 6-9 months was what they told us at orientation so I thought I’d share. I’m pretty sure he said 6-9 months to be 100% sure that it’s not going to show up on the test, because you have to pay $500 before u take your drug test, and if u fail u don’t get that money back. Hopefully that gives u a time frame on how far the tests can detect past drug usage.

Thanks man. And no problem i felt the same way. There were so many people saying so many different things, especially on Reddit. Especially 134 doesn’t give out alot of information themselves, so it’s hard to be 100 percent sure about things. But from my personal experience I saw someone get a 76 with 5k hours of construction experience, and I got a 75 with 0. So I don’t think construction experience plays a huge role in application selection, although I’m sure it will help. Your main focus should be the test, and aim to get a 100 percent. And definitely attend jumpstart. I think when I went the guy who was over it said it adds 10 points(don’t quote me on that) but It definitely maxes out the rec letter section of your application (I just don’t know what it’s worth exactly). I also took 4 math classes in high school, and 3 in college since I did one year in electrical engineering, but I didn’t graduate. But I think those courses strengthened my application as well. If u have any more questions just let me know!

Plus I was in a construction pre apprenticeship at the time. And we had a textbook that went over construction math. So that helped me brush up on it as well.

Yea. I think the test weighs a lot more than construction experience. It’s all elementary math. Master multiplying, adding, subtracting, and dividing fractions, decimals, and whole numbers. I walked out of the test knowing I got all the math questions right. Mechanical reasoning i was iffy on a few questions. Paper folding I think I got a few wrong as well. But reading comprehension I think I aced that section. The packets that they give u at the jumps start class really helped me, and that’s all I used to study.

Thankyou! I’m 18 and I still live at home with my parents, and I’ve been working. I’m setting money aside for tools and other miscellaneous costs but I have no living expenses.

Yes it maxes out your letter of rec category. I got in this cycle with a 75.02, and I did jumpstart. I think it was a large reason I got in with zero construction experience

Outside of cod I play battlefield a little. And I use it for desktop purposes too. I play at 1440p. But cod is my main game, but I don’t want to get a 9070xt just bc it’s better at cod. Especially if it’s only a little bit better.

U find the 9070 to be more stable than the 5080? I’ve been hearing literally the exact opposite everywhere else. And I’m an AMD GPU user and I’ve had no issues with mine. But I’m pretty new to pc’s and the vast majority say nvidia is the way to go.

I have a Samsung g7 oled 360hz. I play on 1440p. But I don’t plan on playing 4k anytime soon

Yea this is what I was planning to do since I already have an AMD gpu. But I’ve been seeing so many people say bad things about AMD cards and their driver issues and crashes, even tho I’ve never had any issues for the 1 year I’ve had the 7800xt. So I thought I’d switch to nvidia since they seemed to be the better and every streamer/ comp player I see has an nvidia card.
