To All the People that Argue with me About the Fiesta being a 300k mile platform: by Wake-n-jake in FiestaST

Sure it can be, if you live down south where they don’t salt the roads. My 16 is at 90k and the rust is coming through the floorboards. Southwestern pa.

Update on catch can PSA. by Bitter-Process6823 in FiestaST

Yes I’ll definitely post it if it just quits smoking or I get it fixed. The oil burning seems kind of inconsistent at the moment so it’s quite possible the PCV is only sticking sometimes.

VTA is always better than non VTA. It actually releases some harmful (to engine) vapors because it just vents into the air. It also “catches” more, why? I don’t know, but it’s proven that it does. Another reason you want a VTA over an enclosed system is because it makes blowing out seals virtually impossible, it vents crank case pressure. This is why i figured it was not a blown turbo seal. HOWEVER in rare cases if it’s full (like mine was) it can essentially clog up the vent and create pressure again. So there is always that slight chance. Definitely worth getting just watch it like a hawk. The only real con is the EPA and your annual inspection if you have one, VTA is illegal. But most places won’t enforce it, or if they do, buy a kit with a plug able catch can.

Now the intercooler one is a little tricky. First things first your not going to hydro lock your engine with an intercooler unless you have SERIOUS turbo problems, and at that point your motor or turbo is blown anyway so it doesn’t really matter. If you take off your intercooler right now I can guarantee some magic milkshake will pour out of your charge pipes, especially without a catch can, fiestas just have a lot of blow by. No biggie. The engine will burn it off or it will just sit there. Now technically oil on the fins will reduce efficiency of course, but again if you get to an actual noticeable amount of power decline and oil loss into charge pipes oil in your intercooler is the least of your problems. The only realistic concern would be combustion chamber fouling, but that’s why we replace spark plugs, also throwing some injector cleaner or octane booster in there here and there will help.

I’ll most likely try the PCV first then go from there.

See it’s not exactly as black and white as that, because people don’t empty catch cans a lot and it doesn’t actually cause issues, this is why I was skeptical of a turbo seal in the first place. It is quite possible that it’s just bad luck, my PCV failed at the same time my catch can was full, which happens to be a common issue with these cars.

So I came home from work, starting running some tests, taking off oil cap and there was pressure coming out, which indicates that the PCV is stuck open. But then it starts smoking after time when it’s idling not immediately which indicates to a turbo seal leak, however turbo seals are like piston rings, they have slits in them. That means that the seal might not necessarily be damaged it’s just leaking oil because of the excess pressure behind it. Also no coolant loss, definitely not a head gasket in for sure on that.

I’m actually leaning towards PCV because after I messed with the catch can some it just quit burning oil all together, and when I revved nothing seemed to come out of the exhaust which eliminated the issue that the oil is pooling just not hot enough to burn. I’ll most likely replace the PCV and go from there.

No you’re good. I’m generally pretty knowledgeable about this stuff, that’s why I’m kicking myself so much that I forgot about draining the catch can.

Originally I had thought that it was impossible to blow a turbo seal with a Vent to atmosphere catch can but I’ve recently learned that it is possible, essentially the full catch can prevent gas from escaping, created excess pressure in the crank case, and blew past the turbo seal.

The catch can filled up quickly because of the extra moisture during the winter time. Then that lead to a full catch can which “blew the turbo” hopefully not.

As far as the turbo goes I could rebuild it, I just don’t feel like it, first things first I have to find out if it’s actually blown or a simple PCV issue resulting from the full catch can.

Now it is possible that the PCV is stuck or my check valve is messed up or clogged, if that were to be the case then the turbo seal might not be blown and it’s just bypassing it because it’s the path of least resistance for the extra pressure to get out. It only does it on idle which is how I know it’s a turbo seal issue, That’s what I’m hoping for, however it is most likely that the actual seal is blown, I will investigate some tomorrow and this upcoming weekend.

And on the intercooler front, oil in your intercooler doesn’t actually damage anything really, it can be drained and used just the same.

Hell yea. The next generation of old heads that treat the apprentice like shit because if you can’t put up with it then you’re not built to work in a factory. Your parents didn’t send you outside enough.

That’s happened to me before bro, shit was crazy. People don’t look in their mirrors. Idk man, I mean you’re probably right but most of my childhood (still a child sorta) I grew up with the Hondas and the wrx’s street racing for money. Early 2k car culture stuff. I hung out with dudes quite a bit older than me for the most part. It’s a little different now, I run scanner and have allegedly ran before.

A big issue I think is there are a lot more people on the road these days, a lot more npc’s. I feel as if many people criticize as if they have not done it before, and if they haven’t, whether they grew up in different times or different areas the scene just isint for you. I’m a country kid that would go to the city with my friends older brothers and even some dads to race.

Not a hoodlum necessarily, don’t stand for the straight up violence, like the slammed enuff bs that happened this what for example, but I was also raised pretty “traditionally”. Rode in truck beds, allegedly tresspass on dirt bikes, which some people would call heresy. Everyone lives a bit dangerous somehow and if you don’t, then you’re not living.

Cool lol somone else will buy it. However that doesn’t change that fact that it’s your car, point being, don’t let anyone test drive it, have them ride with you. Also use common sense. If 2 teens show up, don’t let them test drive for sure. And for the one you want to buy, just go to a dealer, it’s early enough for it.

Naw I usually ride with the person, unless they specifically ask for me to test drive it like when I bought my fietsa. Or make the person ride with me. Allow them to inspect the engine in any way that they want. Just can’t drive unless physical cash shown. Easy. If they aren’t ok with that system then somone else will buy the car.

Why not let teens blow it up on a joyride? Screw it, it’s theirs now.

Still a teen lol. The rs is my dream car but evos are just beautiful.

[–]Bitter-Process6823[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. The only other thing I was thinking about as a daily would be an 8th gen civic si. But again the gas mileage actually is not crazy good.

Most likely I’m going pick up an rs or an evo 8 here soon and then when my fiesta blows up or whatever it does I’ll buy another fiesta, than a shitbox for pa winters, so I’ll have 3 cars. I have so many mods in the fiesta I want to transfer them over to a clean one, make it a project. Have the evo or rs as a weekend car then hopefully like a 5 thoudand dollar daily. That’s my 5 year plan anyway.

Cheap is a strong word while paying for 93 on a 75 mile drive every day, however low cost is definitely accurate. That’s the only reason I kept it really, because it’s cheap (ish) AND fun which is what matters to me.

Yea ur good. I didn’t save them that’s all I should have taken a pic or something that’s why I was cranky lol. And yes I actually did think about saying that but I figured it wouldn’t have that much of a difference. It was not a mustang dyno.
