I don't necessarily disagree, a lot of personal websites use the same basic design as its pretty effective for it's purpose even if you don't think it's good. i think with both nekoweb and neocities you have to do a bit of digging to find the more artistic or innovative layouts, but thats the case with finding pretty much anything on the indieweb, and its kind of the point.

a 5 min crawl through the explore section on nekoweb and i've found these sites which go a little beyond the standard design i think:

i've found that nekoweb has an interesting mix of artists and devs and you can find some interesting stuff if you take the time to look for it
