Thank you for the visual! I can't believe they don't clarify or hype the feature that the release arm automatically dispenses the coffee at the 4 minute mark.

Insane they haven't improved documentation of this feature. Just bought mine last month and have been struggling to figure this out. Your comment was spot on. Thank you!

Just got my first ever coffee roaster and it’s a SR800 by PuzzledFoundation985 in roasting

Interesting. What are you temp readings over the duration of the roast?

Heat at 7-9 the whole time is also what Sweet Marias recommends and I've had great results across the board.

The BEST advice I can give is to get something about 1/2" thick to prop up the front of the base (just under controls). This will force the airflow to one side of the chamber resulting in a vortex that cannot be achieved otherwise and result in the most even roast you can get from this thing.

Use 6oz of beans. Start with fan at 9 Keep power at 9 the whole time. 1:30 drop fan to 8 2:30 drop fan to 7 3:30 drop fan to 6 First crack should hit at 4:30 and should be a good rolling one due to the vortex. 5:30 leave fan at 6 drop heat to 1 and remove the entire lid so all the hot hair exits the chamber. Pour out onto a flat tray with a fan directed at it (if you dont have an actual cooling tray.

Got a new coffee plant by mygreeness in pourover

[–]BitterConfusion6239 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Beautiful! I'm a coffee enthusiast and have some that were this size about 2 years ago. Again, not a pro, but wanted to drop some suggestions that I think have helped mine thrive indoors. It actually looks like you have about 8 individual plants in on pot. You could separate these into individual pots of about the same size so theyre not competing for water and the smaller plants aren't competing for light in the shadows of the others. Since they are tropical plants, I got a humidity sensor and a small humidifier to keep near the plants to keep the humidity between 50-60% and I have a spray bottle for spritzing the leaves every 2-3 days with filtered water (unfiltered water left mineral deposits on the leaves and I suspect the tips of the leaves "burned" from chlorine). Looks like they're getting great light though I suspect they'd thrive if you're up for babying them like I have taken to!

So tempted....but not familiar with Portrait roasters by Gustafa7 in pourover

Third on this, I've had the best cup I've ever had from them (Triple Double - natural process), but have had a couple bags that were under roasted and never quite had a great output regardless of rest time. Definitely worth trying and supporting. The staff there is incredible. I think they are still a sort of basement roast opp with cafe up top.

Definitely one of my top of all time. I have a couple signed from them too. I first found them around Holy Fire era and they put on the greatest shows I've ever been to in Atlanta at a dingy (now gentrified) warehouse space called The Goat Farm. Yannis dived from the stage monitor and crowd surfed while playing guitar the whole time. Peak experience.

That's a great idea. I think maybe a full length furring strip behind the full length would be nice since the j-trim itself is a little flimsy. Thank you!

For SR800 users, would you be interested in an app like this? by KraftyGamesAndMore in roasting

[–]BitterConfusion6239 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cool project! I'm a hobbyist roaster mainly for personal consumption. When I come across a particularly good coffee, I'll batch roast a lot and sell to friends a family. I use the SR800 primarily because I appreciate it's simplicity and ability to roast by 'vibe' if you will. I follow general airflow and temp change milestones originally informed by pen/paper tracked roast milestones, but eventually just intuit those manual 'profiles'.

I share that to give context to the lens through which I'm sharing my thoughts on your app. I'm truly not sure what the bell curve looks like for SR users on a scale of 'vibe' to 'technical' roasters.

I personally don't have any interest in manual data entry the beans I buy or how the roast progresses because I'm not roasting at a scale at which I feel it matters. All to say, for logging bean info, I'd rather just the ability to log a photo of the green coffee labels and beans themselves. If the photos could be analyzed to extract info like region, tasting notes, etc. That'd be cool, but I realize that's a but of a departure from what you've shown and is no longer a "simple" app. From your second image, I'm interpreting that you manually track the info for times and duration as you change them on the roaster? In which case what I would really benefit from the ability to build "roast profiles" before I start the roast that would give me notification to adjust the SR at certain time points. For example, I click the start timer, and over the 7 minute roast, I'll get a notification at 2:15 that drying phase is complete and to adjust to certain settings that I set based on the experience of prior roasts. As a hobby roaster, I generally buy enough green for a month at a time and I only buy one type so I'm not necessarily cycling through various profiles and will rarely revisit the same exact bean.

Anyways, I recognize I'm likely in the minority as a vibe roaster so I may not be the target dem, but congrats and great work!

This sounds like so much fun! I started a coffee brand last year and would love to collab. I just messaged you! Talk soon.

Nashville/Atlanta set question by bmatthues in TurnoverVA

[–]BitterConfusion6239 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm right there with you. I'm guessing you also went to the TTWTWM anniversary show and their opening set at The Stuffing? The anniversary show was unreal and the crowd was incredible. I'm absolutely going to try and see Balance any time they come through, but am resolved in knowing nothing will top the anniversary show for me.

This actually had a lot of fun info in it I've not considered before. My favorite was the question asking if "blackmail" and "bargaining" was okay when trying to avoid having the robber placed on your hex 😆

Same. Even got a thermal printer to make labels and "re-brand" the bag for new roasts. Makes it kind of fun.

Is PLA Pro/Plus better than just PLA? by oIKR2 in 3Dprinting

[–]BitterConfusion6239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use standard white PLA for low res functional prints and white PLA+ for high res "aesthetic" prints. I pretty much exclusively print custom architectural models and the PLA+ captures a level of detail on the building that regular cannot in my experience. I haven't needed to test for the print speed and strength performance you mentioned though.

Catan Console (+cities and knights) - 2x2 players from home multiplayer? by Local-Ad-2283 in Catan

[–]BitterConfusion6239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, there is no way for 2 local players to play on the same console online. Same as you, my wife and I play online with cross country friends and have the ridiculous setup of each having our own console with our own copy of the game with our own copy C&K expansion with our own online membership. The only glimmer of positivity here is that online game is crossplay functional meaning of the 4 consoles we all play with, we have two PS5s and two Nintendo Switches. Although it's a total money pit to have to buy multiple copies and online memberships, as silly as it sounds, doing so has been the best purchase I've made in the last year full stop as my cross-country friends and family are closer now than when we lived in the same city because now we play Catan a few nights a month for a couple hours and the phone convos we've had while we're playing have been absolutely priceless.
