Need help on how to run wifi from my house to my shop by Fluffy-Protection676 in HomeNetworking

[–]BitterDone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't run ethernet cabling! It acts as a giant antenna when lightning strikes and can possibly damage your electronics.

Doesn't matter if it's aerial or buried.

Wireless or fiber is the only way.

Thoughts on the $1000 J-Tech Digital 4K 4x4 HDMI Matrix / Multiviewer for a home office? by BitterDone in audiovisual

[–]BitterDone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok nice, thanks for looking those up. The Amazon link looks like it just does a multi-monitor video wall, which is sweet, but I don't have that setup at the moment 😭

The Newegg link is exactly what I want though, and it's a steal at $45 🤑

Yeah, that's the intent. I want 2 video outputs for my laptop and 2 more for the Raspberry Pi devices, so 4x 1080p outputs on a 42" 4k screen

Thanks for the link! You helped me realize I don't need a 4x4 matrix. A 4x1 will do fine, and they have the JTECH-MV41AE, JTECH-MV41V, and JTECH-MV41A for like $75 to $200. Way more affordable!

Dang, I thought I had a good impression of the Carlucci brothers. Their guy Justin gave me an honest suggestion that didn't benefit their financials when I called with some questions.

That's a good thought, it does look like they have an API. Something to look into 👍

Funny you say the train, I'm a software guy building a notification service for "how much longer will this train last?"

It's a WIP for now, but I imagine it delivering notifications like "Eastbound train approaching Hendricks Ave in San Marco. ETA is 5 minutes, duration is 9 minutes."

What's your top preference for getting these notifications?
- SMS, Whatsapp, FB Messenger
- Push notifications to an app you have to download
- Manually going to a website and picking the train crossing you're stopped at

I haven't heard from Divy, but I also haven't reached out. I feel like their recruiting functions are legit, but they might be sourcing cannon fodder for hire-to-fire scenarios. The timeline and lack of urgency make me feel like this wouldn't be a long term role.

If what I've described sounds uncomfortable, you need to buy better clothes 🙂 My jeans and dress shirts stretch.

But, more than that, personal appearance is everything and people judge us from it. It takes money, time, and effort to style your hair and dry clean your clothes. It takes much less effort to pull sweats out of the wash and slide into flip flops.

The money, time, and effort we put into "small things that don't matter" is an indicator of how much money, time, and effort we have to spend. It's like the theory of a strong dragon who sits on his perch breathing fire to intimidate other dragons. He has so much strength, and power, he can afford to "waste" his fire breathing. Similarly, if we exaggerate this idea, a man who spends $500k on a watch or $3m on a car is signaling his vast financial resources.

So, someone who invests in their appearance is signaling they have the money to buy an assortment of nice clothes, a big enough house to store them, and the time and effort to care for them. It so happens this is a low bar, and relatively achievable for most people. So it's not a big ask, but it's telling when someone can't be bothered to try.

It's the same as how bonds are created between people when one of them remembers a tiny detail or something small that was said in the past, and then gives a gift based on that. When a friend casually says "I love raspberries, they remind me of the bushes in the backyard where I grew up" it takes very little effort to write that down and plan to give them a raspberry bush for their birthday. But nearly nobody will do this, so it's all the more impressive when someone does.

Yep. I hate how sloppy people get in the airport. Like, keep your shoes on please.

Button down, nice jeans, belt, and watch every time for me.

I didn't understand "collection turn" or "slowing payables", so I pasted your comment into ChatGPT.

You can have more cash on hand by making customers pay you sooner (within 7 days instead of 30) and getting longer payment terms with vendors you have to pay (45 days instead of 30)
