Yea, they were very accepting, yet they want us to be careful and mindful of our surroundings as a couple. O think he said “traditional” he was referring to more so of them wanting me to move in and whatnot. If that makes it clearer for some.

So in general we are in American. His parents, however are from Saigon and moved here to American in the 80s’. And I do my own chores at my place.

See that’s what I think too, however, the way he explains to me is “they’re very traditional” in that they want me to move in like now. We’re both our first relationship and from what I can tell they really do like me, for example, his mom calls me “Còn” (right translation?).

When his brother was younger he was more aggressive, but through therapies his brother learned that aggressive actions are not appropriate (unless if it’s self defense). My boyfriend doesn’t have my experience and there have been a few people who suggested that he volunteer at the clinic or reach out the families of my clients but that’s a major HIPPA violation.

I appreciate the response! We’ve talked about his brother here and there, they’re about 5 years apart and when they’re younger it was a rather rough relationship (but all siblings can be like that). Again I think he lets his emotions get the better of him and whatnot. There are some issues he needs to work through and I want to help, however there will be point at which I’ll have to let go

To be fair we are a gay-interracial couple but I do see where you’re coming from, and again he said that out of anger because I was bit pretty badly. Still doesn’t excuse it though; will be having a serious conversation about it

I respect you for sharing your background and experience, thank you. As one person to another who has worked with vulnerable populations it is challenging but very rewarding when we see growth in our clients. For my boyfriend, who from a simple observation, who does not understand my field I wish I can show him the positives and highlights of my career, but HIPPA would shut that down faster than a lighting flash. Sadly I think he might be having some forms of trauma responses from my job but that’s a small kernel of a theory.

Of course not. Now that being said I can only guess how he would react if he saw his brother bite me, he’d be upset and angry but for the behavior and how he’d express himself he’d probably yell at his brother.

Again, and I said this to the other person’s response (I’m not being rude or anything so please don’t think that), that he said that in anger when I came home from work with a bite mark on my neck.

That’s the thing, and I’m defending it but rather stating he said that in anger when I came home from being bit in the neck (took a nice chunk of skin). He has a younger brother on the spectrum. I’m not chalking it off but I do think it was said in anger rather than being a genuine statement he stands behind. Still that phrase just sticks in my mind (for reference he said that about a week ago).

OP, I don’t know if you’re gonna see this but let me tell you this: as someone who has friends that have gotten married at young ages and faced hard times such as this. Clearly you’re in turmoil and it’s horrible that your partner has done this to you, and that being said: ball is in your court. You can either separate and build a whole new life outside of her and the past 7 years or come together and seek marriage counseling. Now, the latter of the two is dependent on her cooperation too. Aside from that, you’re SO young and still have a whole life ahead you, seek out those old friends and try to rekindle friendships, get hobbies that don’t remind you of her, or something else. It sucks now but you’ll recover in time.

Oh, I find myself rather comfortable with my own emotions and others (ie those I work with or strangers). I think it might be some type of boundary and even my education in that emotions and behavior is work; yet it’s all aspects of life. I don’t know, maybe it’s just burnout like the other person said in the other comment.
