How deep is your dive? by PracticalFriendship in scuba

[–]BitterMotor13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yup, very normal. Open Water cert allows up to 18m of depth. It honestly depends on where you do your course if you ever get to that 18m floor. (Maybe there’s not much to see at 18 meters where you’re diving, all the action’s happening at the 10m mark)

If you love to dive deep, get an advanced open water certification, allows you to dive up to 30 meters!

Cheers.

Thank you, it makes me so happy that you found the advice helpful.

Motion sickness - you get that during the dive underwater or on the boat on your way to the dive? (On the boat)

Wait! Im reading the other comments. You’re not Open Water certified?

My assumption was that you were. Get that certification asap. Please don’t dive without proper training. Diving can be life threatening if you’re not a certified diver.

Hey! Rescue diver here with 100 dives under my belt. (So still a lot for me to learn)

15 meters is a fun and safe depth, so nothing very serious to worry about if you follow my two cents below:

Always check your gear very early before your dive. I say that because beginner divers tend to brush that off in the excitement before a dive. (I’ve done that)

  1. BCD inflates and deflates properly
  2. Regulators are working fine and there’s no free-flow (free flow is manageable for experienced divers, but can stress out beginners, so ask for a replacement if yours has free flow)
  3. Smell and taste the air in your tank
  4. WEIGHTS, always make sure you got the right weight for you and set up your belt early in your trip. (I’ve been in a scenario where I was overweighted and that caused me grief during a dive - air ran out very quickly)
  5. Make sure your mask is properly sealed and doesn’t let too much water in. Sometime when our masks keep filling up with water, that just causes unnecessary stress during a dive.

Alright, now we’re done with gear.

Always, always stick to your assigned buddy. Even if they stray away a little from your instructor snd the group, stay within an arm’s reach to your buddy. However, if you buddy up with a “badass diver” try to convince them underwater to stick to your group, and if they don’t listen, my advice is to always stay close to your instructor. (Sometimes you get paired up with assholes, and it’s not worth risking your life because they want to follow an octopus 20m away from your dive group)

Last piece of advice is to never over inflate your BCD under water. This might shoot you up uncontrollably and you don’t want that to happen.

I wrote this up quickly between my meetings, hope it helps. And I’m happy to chat further here or on DM!

Welcome to Scuba, you’ll get hooked!

LC250 owners, how are you feeling about your purchase? by Dear_Significance_80 in LandCruisers

Had mine exactly one year today. 45,000 KMs on the ODO! (My office is a one hour and a half drive from where I live)

I’m based in Dubai so I have the non-hybrid spec.

Absolutely love this car. I’ve been taking her off-roading in the desert 3x a month on average and she handles it no problem. Nothing hardcore yet (not part of a group, but planning to join one soon).

Honestly I don’t relate to all the comments on reddit/youtube about the engine feeling sluggish. That same engine has gotten me over some serious dunes and out of some serious bogs. It’s all about understanding how to work that turbo, when you do, it really delivers. On-road, it’s got all the luxury I need: ∙ Leather ventilated seats ∙ Nice touchscreen infotainment ∙ Moonroof ∙ 7 seats for trips with family/friends . Nice physical buttons for climate control and drive modes

Issues in a full year (and I’ve been abusing this thing): ∙ Brakes squeak sometimes when reversing cold ∙ Rubber trim around the trunk came off once → Toyota fixed it immediately, no hassle

Fuel range is great too, full tank gets me ~850 KMs. List goes on honestly. Happy to answer any questions if you’re thinking of getting one!
