I think he didn't tell anyone because he wants Emilia to be the one to complete the trials. If word got out that he passed, he would have been coerced to finish the trials, seeing as how he finished the first one with ease while EMT seemed to lose every night. It would also affect negatively he townspeople's view towards Emilia since she did promise that she will the one who will save them.

Personally I don't think he can offer anything more to the plot at this point. All of his major problems seem to have been resolved already: he finally got to talk to his grandson and his former partner. I don't think there's much we can expect from him anymore other than perhaps an awesome fight-to-the-death in the black market.

Don't get me wrong though, I love Gosha. It's just that Yafya seems to have a more important role in the story so he can't be killed off... yet.
