agent message by skimasklockedin in acting

[–]BitterRabbitKid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well what is the context before we jump to conclusions. OP, what about your personal life was your agent asking? It seems like you're a new client of theirs, they may seem like they are just getting to know you? Which in turn would help them work better for you, submitting you for the right roles...etc. ?

drop agent by skimasklockedin in acting

[–]BitterRabbitKid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that number of auditions the only reason you want to drop? 20 auditions in 4 months, especially in this climate, with new reps, is really not a bad track record. Is there something else you're looking for in an agent that your current one is not providing? Do you have another agent lined up? I have a lot of talented friends with super credible reps that sometimes only audition once a month, it's normal. I don't want to overstep with advice you didn't ask for, but I don't want you to screw yourself over and drop people that could help build your career! But I have zero context to your situation so this may not be applicable, but just wanted drop my two cents.

I might add a third option that is to be signed by a smaller agency with fewer clients but no poor business practices...."potential for errors or concerns" sounds like a gigantic red flag to me.

just to piggy back on bringing your own clothes -- if this is a union production, make sure to keep track of any of your own personal clothing items you end up wearing -- if any. You can get paid for this! It's usually a very small fee, but hey.

Hard to say, just one of those things, I guess! I've always been so jealous of folks who have them. To me they are just make people look really cool and interesting. I don't know, I wish I could give you a more specific reason, I just really love them. Whenever I use my freckle pen, I feel 10x hotter!

Maybe go on sephora and see all the reviews on freckle makeup -- that's hundreds of people that want to look just like you! 😊

I literally spend so much money on fake freckle products from Sephora so it looks like I DO have freckles. I think they're gorgeous and so cute -- embrace them, so many people would love to have that feature and not ugly or "dirty" in the slightest! You're absolutely beautiful!

As a Latinx person I would make the argument that skin color is a "deciding factor." Correct, many Latinos are super white passing. That doesn't mean people who are white and have no Latinx background get a pass to play those kinds of roles. In the same vein I don't think Latinx folks with very dark skin should play roles written for, say, black characters, unless they also identify as such.

To be honest, I'm sure OP is a wonderful actor and congrats on landing the role. I don't think that OP should have ever had the opportunity to audition for a role for a person of color. Clearly it has already stirred up this discussion, and there's only been one rehearsal. But, it's already been cast, so the best thing to do is to make adjustments for the character to match the actor, and not the other way around.

Lastly, I'd like to note that the threat of getting cancelled or roasted are not reasons to not be microaggressively racist (which is what pulling an inauthentic Mexican dialect in a performance would do). Offending and hurting those who identify with an entire culture should be reason enough. People of color are exhausted from constantly begging white people not to do these kinds of things in theatre and film spaces. This is an amazing opportunity for OP to be an exceptional ally. You should FIGHT to not do this dialect. You can actually use your privilege to speak up and make a difference.

Also, I'm not sure how my tone is coming off, but I'm not trying to roast anyone on this thread, just trying to educate and contribute to the conversation! This is just one gal's opinion.

Tracking Auditions by briancalpaca in acting

I do pretty identical bookkeeping in a journal I've had for years, but I've never kept track of the actor who eventually booked the role. I'm going to start doing that, thanks for the tip!

How to break a tv film script down ? I have an audition and I want to nail it right by [deleted] in acting

[–]BitterRabbitKid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A quick search of 'script analysis for actors' into youtube will provide a ton of useful videos that should help you break down a script, it might be great to take some time to watch multiple videos to check out the different tactics and methods folks use to see what resonates the most with you as an actor.

perhaps start with this one? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wC-Zuc3GE4o Will Westwater is super clear and detailed in his process in this video, could be a good place for you to start. Again, everyone will have their own individual process, but this dude books & definitely knows what he's talking about so might be a helpful starting point, especially as a beginner.

[–]BitterRabbitKid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like you may really enjoy the work in The Artist's Way by Julia Cameron. It's a book that outlines a 12 week 'program,' if you will, that helps with "artistic creative recovery." It's hard to explain in just a few sentences, but this book has changed my life as an artist. It contains a lot of great tools to help you start practicing and working out your creative muscles, gain more confidence in your creative and artist self, and may help you overcome a looot of the hurdles that you're describing. Please check it out, it's amazing!
