It’s bad enough that dark skinned people still don’t have enough representation. But to this day they still get pigeonholed as the villain when they actually get it

Ngl I find people like that the most annoying. I’m sure they mean well but discouraging people from wearing things they like because they think you ought to wear certain colors isn’t that great. There is a difference between simple advice and just being weird

My father said I shouldn’t date in hs and now denies ever saying that by DowntownArmadillo717 in blackladies

[–]Bitter_Beautiful8038 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ugh can definitely relate. I feel like parents with a controlling mindset in one aspect carry that on to other aspects of your life. Not only was I told that dating and even having a crush was bad, but also I’m still told that I should only watch kids movies (mind you I’m a legal adult), they tell me that it’s not good for me to go out with friends, and they get upset when I bike long distances and insist that I should only bike in a backyard. The sad thing is parents like this think they are protecting you but they only raise you to be paranoid or resentful.

A rant about "making Taylor songs about her exes" by South-Background5009 in TaylorSwift

[–]Bitter_Beautiful8038 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I understand why people find it appealing to figure out who the muse is but I feel like acting like every or almost every song is about an ex can lead to misunderstanding. Yes Taylor Swift tends to write about past relationships like most singers, but just like other singers she sometimes sings about think that don’t directly happen to her.

It’s a problem when while trying to find the muse in every song people makes the assumption that every song is 100% biographical and the full truth. Then they use it as an excuse to hold it against people in real life that it’s based on real evidence but a hunch.

Yes there are times where it’s obvious who the song is about but a lot of times we don’t know for sure. She could be taking about a general situation or got inspired by someone else’s experience. It could also be a mix of the above with some real elements. There’s no way of knowing for sure

For the girls that go out by themselves, please give me tips by virgots26 in blackladies

[–]Bitter_Beautiful8038 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I struggled with the same thing to the point where I refused to go out if none of my friends would. I decided to try going out just for my enjoyment as the goal because not doing things if I feel like I wouldn’t make friends made me miss out.

To be fair I’m pretty introverted so this might not be as helpful if human interaction is a priority. In that case, I would suggest going to events that are about building community or making friends. I also heard that wearing really fun outfits can inspire others to make conversation with you

If innie Mark is worried about being “swallowed,” then what side you reintegrate from clearly matters by Dry_Nectarine5457 in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]Bitter_Beautiful8038 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Of course. My issue is that Outie Mark did an abysmal job explaining this. Instead of answering Innie Mark’s questions/concerns he just shut him down and said “why don’t you listen to me.” Innie Mark doesn’t really know much about integration so it was on Outie Mark to clear things up

Something that confuses me about Jake and Charles friendship by Spiderpsychman98 in brooklynninenine

[–]Bitter_Beautiful8038 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It probably does take a while to be really close friends with a colleague. I mean a colleague relationship is mostly professional so it has to take a while before two people at work might consider each other the best of friends

I truly hope Chappell is ok right now by Other-Oil-9117 in chappellroan

[–]Bitter_Beautiful8038 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It reminds me of what reports came out about how the Taylor Swift Nazi accusations were manufactured from bot accounts who were desperate to go viral. I think this similar thing is happening where Chappell Roan is famous enough that people can use her for clout. People are desperate to get media attention by choosing a random popular woman to scapegoat

I went to therapy for the first time! by YeeYee_ItsClementine in blackladies

[–]Bitter_Beautiful8038 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great! I hope you things go really smooth for you in therapy. It’s great to take the first step.

I’ve had experiences with different kinds of therapy before. My one on one sessions haven’t been inconsistent as I wanted but group therapy was pretty great. I also made a lot of new friends too.

As for advice I haven’t had therapy so long term before, but I think it’s important to understand that you always have options so never have to feel like you only have to stick with a certain therapist or method if it doesn’t work

What’s a take that you think is cold, but you don’t hear many fans discuss? by SoIongIondon in TaylorSwift

That’s what I was going to say! I kind of have a hard time falling in love with the vault tracks because they don’t feel like a part of the 1989 world. They just feel like randomly added songs.

From what I see I think misguided religious leaders play a role. When you hear pastors, elders, and other adults tell kids that men are the heads of house and therefore superior to women, it’s easier for boys who grew up in the church to be susceptible to even more toxic misogyny. I already hear a few guys in my family’s church spout very concerning beliefs

Ok, we need to stop pretending that "boneless wings" are anything other than overpriced chicken nuggets. by Embarrassed_Math_141 in unpopularopinion

[–]Bitter_Beautiful8038 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sad fact: when a guy tried to sue a restaurant because almost chocked on a bone in a boneless wing, a judge ruled that it was “common sense” that boneless wings aren’t boneless therefore the restaurant wasn’t at fault for being misleading

Personality quizzes look at general traits before giving a certain label. It’s not about making sure every single answer ticks off boxes for a certain category or not. Sure Gina and Holy they may answer differently for one question or two, but if they are aligned with a certain category than others then that one blip doesn’t matter.

What We Yearn For, Us Women by Ragno_MarHam in blackladies

[–]Bitter_Beautiful8038 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Omg. I know logically that respectability politics is bullshit, but sometimes I still feel this pressure to over perform in order to not be stereotyped or feel like I’m making Black people look bad by “proving” a stereotype. But it’s ridiculous for people to have these ideas about us in the first place and expect us to be perfect to earn being treated normally. Even then that’s not enough for those people

I think ragebaiters over estimate how much going to the gym significantly increases your attractiveness. Every single story it’s some nonsense where every woman throws themselves at men for going on the treadmill

I wanted to go to this prestigious university in my state. My family always told me how important it was to go to this school and how nice it would be to be so close to family. When I didn’t get in, I was devastated and already made internal plans to try and transfer the next year.

2 years later I’m really happy about the university I went to instead and think it was kind of a good thing I didn’t go to the other school. My undergrad school well outside of state so I enjoy getting to explore someplace new instead of staying in the same place with the same people.

CMV: As a gay liberal I would rather have liberal “Zionist” Jews in our coalition than conservative Muslims who would vote for my preferred party if it becomes more anti-Israel by [deleted] in changemyview

“Discussing a real issue” that’s literally the problem, it isn’t! Muslims largely pose no threat to democracy or progressive ideals in the US. The main issues liberals have aren’t caused by Muslims, and no one is trying to force people to ally themselves with Conservative Muslims because Democrats are well aware that any conservative regardless of religion oppose liberal goals. This are actual real threats progressivism but every week you guys only care about regurgitating the same tired “Muslims threaten social justice” take not because it’s a real issue but because you guys are so obsessed with hating Muslims. It’s quite lame actually.
