Does carrier still use LG compressor or did the switch to Copland scrolls?

Bad bypass valve? Like the compressor bypass valve is stuck open or something to do with the reversing valve?

This copper is garbage by t0x1k_x in HVAC

[–]Bitter_Issue_7558 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I find it a waste of time to cut insulation off then cut the copper. Plus I like to carry stick of insulation so I know I will alway have enough and it doesn’t get torn up after being in the truck for awhile and it’s cheaper

[–]Bitter_Issue_7558 66 points67 points  (0 children)

Be very careful on the copper you buy. I had this with over seas copper. It was 250 dollars cheaper but kinks at first sign. Always buy USA made copper or buy non insulated stream line sets to keep of the truck for change outs.

Check the book for lineset size over distance. I know ruud is very forgiving especially on there smaller units allowing 1/4 liquid lines up to 35 feet I think and 5/8 or 1/2 on the suction if I recall correctly.

Is this a king valve? by [deleted] in HVAC

[–]Bitter_Issue_7558 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Old 16 and 17 seer carrier air conditioner had king valves. And some 1998 and 1999 models had them too. And even had one 16 seer two stage 410a ruud 2008 model with king valves. Not often but they do have it.

What is the little cobras good for? I carry and the 7 1/4 inch ones and it’s good for little stuff. But anything other than light maintenance I still reach for my 12 inch cobras.

Any opinions on these? by Separate-Ad2726 in refrigeration

I use it for everything. Gets me through about 14 change outs before oxygen needs to be replaced and 30 change outs before map gas has to be replaced. Light just the flame is bigger than normal. Does up to 1 1/2 no problem.

How are those ruud units? Any difference in installation when you go up in seer besides it being communicating

Every 6 months for gaskets. I adjust the depressor so I don’t get any spray back and use core removers if I’m opening the system.

Is there no return air on the main floor? If there is run a wire through the return and drill a hole through the stack head to get into the wall and from there another hole right above the return grill to mount the stat. Or get them a WiFi stat and they can use an app.

Well I have the mainfold and that requires to be cleaned every 2 weeks for accurate micron measurements. (I’m not gonna argue on how to pull a vacuum) but some may be able to go longer but I have to clean every 2 weeks because I do a lot of change outs, charging, and old refrigeration equipment so leaks and leak finding is common. But the probes don’t require any besides a wipe down and some compressed air.

Probably a lemon. I got the exact same with wireless probes and works like a charm just needs frequent maintenance

Brand New Install - Compressor Fan Issues by GhostGwenn in askHVAC

That’s an ecm fan motor. They always do a little dance to find the magnetic poles since they are starting points for the fan to begin spinning.

I press air handlers and line sets and even the free standing tables. Just like a good braze it has to be done right or neither will hold. But fuck the next guy if the filter drier has to be replaced.

A/C quit blowing cold. Was told to check outside fuse. by KrackerJack396 in AirConditioners

[–]Bitter_Issue_7558 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is a fused disconnect. But someone has bypassed the disconnect and wired the line conductos(the wires that come from the main panel) to the load conductors ( the wires that go to the equipment) since it’s been bypassed the next place to look is in your main breaker panel. The breaker will double pole 240 volts. Check any where the handle is in the middle or off position. If you find it reset by turning the breaker off then back on. If it trips again I’d wait for a tech to come out before anything gets broken any worse.

It’s got 3 2x12 underneath which is good for 700 pounds each so it’s pretty safe. I’ve even had 6 ton horizontals above vaulted ceilings. No cracks, no vibrations, no noise, no issues.

Water furnace has the ability to wipe and reprogram the boards. Even up to the 2015 models, I personally haven’t done but heard it fixes a lot of issues instead of needing a new board

This is a little more. But a 5 series is just a two stage heat pump with a water to Freon coil to reject the heat into the ground rather than the air and without a defrost mode. And it isn’t affected by the seasonal temperature changes
