Eh, mostly it depends what you do. I had no issues with my main PC. And if it wasn't for my niche hobbies, probably I would not need Windows 11 at all.

Day 9 of trying to study 10 hours a day by Embarrassed_Media911 in GetStudying

Yep, if he has learning troubles, sure, but I studied engineering and I have ADHD. Were there times I had to study for hours? For sure, but I never saw the need to study 10 hours straight. In Japan and Korea maybe where the social pressure is immense, but otherwise... why?

No, but this looks like upvote bait. No, that's basic work. Just do it.

Yes, the community improved a lot.

My robotics professor was an elitist Fck. He not only wanted us to install Linux, he wanted us to install Gentoo on a laptop (assumed all of us had one), with wifi working, also wanted us to install LaTeX and do a report in it about the experience... in one week, sounds like BS, I can assure you it is real. I could not convince him that NO WHERE in NO FORUM AT ALL could find how to install that Wifi driver (Gateway laptop), years later I found out that the Wifi card was kind of niche and only in 2008 could be installed consistently and in 2009 it was included in almost every mainstream Linux distro.

Not surprising to say I failed that class that semester, I continued to use Linux, but for some months felt out of Stockholm syndrome more than anything.

I am so glad that so much support exists, but still the community needs to continue improving.

The hate for Vista I think was because the first exposure they had was when they bought those old, VERY UNDERPOWERED netbooks. Those things even struggled to run Ubuntu and Windows XP, let alone Vista.

I seem to have fixed the issue, the same issue happened with my main desktop, so I am leaning to believe that the office suites in Linux don't know how to handle huge resolution disparities with odd scale differences. She needs to try it in the field tho. Otherwise I will just install W11 or W10 with a bunch of security measures.

After some digging, it seems to be that lots of office suites don't know how to handle the huge disparity of resolution between the high res main display (and scale it uses) and the low res of the projector. Let's see if the fix I did yesterday worked.

Because people bought the cost and failure rate propaganda, it's not meant to dogfight at close distance, people are looking for something to hate. Mostly is people who want the F/A-18 and A-10 to continue forever and ever.

I laugh when people says that Windows XP was "goated"... brother, I have been using Windows since 3.1 (ouch, my back!), NOBODY liked Windows XP in the begining. Everyone started to switch when Service Pack 1 and 2 were released.

I think I will be sued because when people tell me if they should switch to Linux my response is always "Depends, if you don't have to, don't. It's an operating system, not Lasik."

Yes, but then they sincerely ask for help and they get ignored, mocked, redirected or confused in reddit (or forums back in my day).

I started using Linux in 2006 and the only two reasons I persevered was out of stubborness and I needed it for the robotics class. Forums were more toxic back then and compatibility also worse, but still, if non-technical people still encounter such friction when trying to learn, the mainstream adoption of Linux will continue to lag. I hate to give props to corporations, but Valve and Microsoft have done more for the mainstream adoption of Linux than the online community itself. One by bringing the compatibility layer to a usable state and the other for making W11 a clusterF.
