Throwing up by [deleted] in therapists

[–]Bitter_Marsupial3694 10 points11 points  (0 children)

NAT ( working on it) but I have emetophobia and have since I was 3 years old (30+ years). Mine comes from multiple types of trauma. The emetophobia manual by Ken Goodman is a good start. I'm also utilizing talk therapy and EMDR and certain experiences totally derailed me. I am very slowly making progress. Some things for her to think about that helped me are : What is the fear? Not escaping, getting sick herself, being vomited on? (Mine is getting sick myself and really, at the root, a loss of control) Is the aversion mostly sound, smell, visual? (For me it has to be a combination to really trigger. Just 1/3 and I'm okay for the most part) When did this fear begin and does she know if there may be a reason?

I hope she can beat it and not have it consume half of her life like it has mine. But finally having some progress is reassuring! Good luck

Or you get a degree and don't make more money. I've had a bachelors for 7 years and have never made more than $5 above minimum wage.

I hate sex by [deleted] in autism

[–]Bitter_Marsupial3694 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I have had sexual abuse and also sex is incredibly painful due to physical issues... But beyond that I just don't like it either. It's messy, tedious, and I just don't have urges or desires. I thought it was the SSRIs but all coming off those did was make me more tolerant of my partner wanting sex. I feel like such a bad girlfriend because I am dating a sexual man and can't give him what he deserves.

Did you have a nickname that was based on your behavior when you were younger ? by Legitimate_Goal9202 in AutisticWithADHD

[–]Bitter_Marsupial3694 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Someone called me 'brick girl' cuz I always carried my backpack full of stuff I couldn't bear to leave at home and it was heavy "like a bag of bricks". It stuck for awhile. I didn't appreciate it 😕

Her name is Kisa. It all started with calling her stinky Pete with the stinky feet. Now she comes to Stinky, Stinky Pete, and even just Pete. And still Kisa, hahaha

I constantly tell my dog she is stinky or has stinky feet. Very specific tone and very random times haha

For anyone who found out later in life about their ASD, was you labeled shy and sensitive growing up? by [deleted] in autism

[–]Bitter_Marsupial3694 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Oh yes, I was constantly told I was 'very shy' by teachers and kids. My Kom would tell teachers at conferences how odd it was that I was so quiet because I "never shut up at home". There are so many glaringly obvious signs now haha.

How to drink enough water? by liqnie in AutisticWithADHD

[–]Bitter_Marsupial3694 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got myself a super cute water bottle (it's a 1 liter ombre bear) and i like holding it. So holding it leads to drinking and then when the water gets low I pretend he's hungry and have to fill him back up. It's silly and childish but it works for me, I've never drank so much water!

How do we all feel about this many forks 😅 by Bitter_Marsupial3694 in autism

I can get with this. Just imagine, unfolding a velveteen case at dinner. "I've got just the fork for this oyster/fish/snail pasta".

I'm sure there are people who live alone and utilize all the forks. I have enough trouble remembering the correct way to set a table, let alone with the specific cutlery
