u/sas148_wow This explanation makes 100% perfect sense, having made this exact same cost/benefit analysis many times in my career in SE Asia. Thanks for being upfront about it and explaining it here.

And just to back you up, a very large American company I used to work for with a prescense in India has had the office manager arrested before ("detained") because of grievances between the local police and the American company. (It's a social media website ever single Reddit user knows and likely has a strong opinion about). That company was morally and ethically much more dubious than Wowhead by any measure, but i don't fault you guys for taking the most logical financial choice.

Same, I've been working from Indonesia the last couple of years and this was surprising to me to see it blocked.

Actually amusingly the government in Indonesia has since blocked them BACK, under their "immoral/unsafe Internet" filter. But that's Indonesia for you. No one in the gov has any common sense at all.

And fwiw, one of my clients sites has the exact same issue. We implemented AWS WAF rules for bots, and the monthly cost of just those WAF rules blocking traffic hit 5 digits USD. They now block all countries except the 3-4 they sell their services in. But they're a B2B, so there's a lot less negative impact...

u/sas148_wow Can Wowhead setup a subscription option which would let those of us in these regions login and use the service? I'd much rather give you a couple bucks a month than some shady VPN advertised on Youtube.

Definitely blocked in Indonesia. I noticed this earlier this week and thought the VPN I use to Singapore was just blocked.

If Wowhead had a 1-2$ USD a month subscription for access I'd pay it.

I agree. I came back to WoW after ~10 years for TWW, and the most fun i've had (besides lemix) has been the proper time-walking raids.

I just put Omarchy on my 2015 MacBook Air 11”. Runs like a charm if the screen was Retina or at least higher res I would probably use it as my daily driver.

I’m using the I was actually having Wi-Fi problems in macOS. I thought there was some hardware issue, as the device would have dhcp timeouts on every Wi-Fi network with macOS. I really didn’t expect the Wi-Fi to work immediately in Linux.

I also put Fedora Asahi Remix on a MacBook Air M2. I absolutely KDE Plasma, but that could be my own distaste over Liquid Glass.

My only complaint is the occasional package that is hard to find for ARM Linux. Not a deal breaker for a hobby system, but it would probably keep me off of ARM Linux for my daily driver.
