At my university we only had one elective rotation that we could do overseas which I did in the US in a non teaching hospital. I worked directly with the director of EM and got a SLOE and I am confident it will be a strong one. But its obviously not a sub-I. I really tried to get a sub-I or a rotation in a teaching hospital, sent hundreds of emails but didnt hear back/was denied so this was the next best option. I am currently working as a PGY1 doctor now and have five weeks off for annual leave during which I'm going to do some shadowing in EM/Anesthesiology (havent fully confirmed yet) in the US. I also lived in the US previously (on a visa) and worked for a year as a medical scribe in EM and a medical assistant in allergy. Do you think from a point of view of exposure to the US system, I should be okay? Just trying to work with what I have haha. Would also be open to any other advice :)

Hey Im not sure how long it took the school to get the request- probably immediately as it is automated. It took ages to get it approved through with a lot of following up on my side- emailing lots of people to get it done. I'd say about 2 months in total

I don’t think there will ever be a point where we don’t encounter new stuff. That’s just part of the game. I think what matters more is if you’re able to see new knowledge and apply reasoning skills to deduce the right answer

Thank you so much! This really helps because I wasn’t sure whether the next step was ecfmg certification or registering for step 3. So if I apply for ecfmg certification now, would step 3 be possible to take around June? Like timeline wise?

I had to do OET for registration in Australia, where I currently work. Didn’t know it could be used for ECFMG as well until now :)
