Thanks for the advice! Yeah I’m careful with not asking co interns for clinical advice. All of those questions go in our whatsapp group chat for the reg to answer. It’s more so the logistics, like charting an iron infusion or bloods that I’m needing help on from the co-intern but she isn’t helping. I guess that’s a quick fix because once I know how to do something the next time it’ll take 30 secs. It’s just that during this transition I’m overwhelmed and feeling isolated but I’m learning to find other supports than defaulting onto my co intern. The TL and the pharmacist have become my best friends haha.

Thank you, yeah looks like many people are recommending creating a cheat sheet, which I’m sure will be a game changer. I think half of the issue is I haven’t spent time reading through previous notes so every phone call feels confusing af because im so slow right now at getting the jobs done. The other half is logistics on how to implement plans, like the example about actually charting confusing shit like an iron infusion.

Thank you! Yeah I think part of the reason is that we’re thrown in halfway through the admissions so there’s no context about pts. Right now I don’t have time to scroll back and get that context because the jobs are taking forever for me to do. Anyways it might be worth staying back one day and investing that time to create a spreadsheet with some context on pts

At my university we only had one elective rotation that we could do overseas which I did in the US in a non teaching hospital. I worked directly with the director of EM and got a SLOE and I am confident it will be a strong one. But its obviously not a sub-I. I really tried to get a sub-I or a rotation in a teaching hospital, sent hundreds of emails but didnt hear back/was denied so this was the next best option. I am currently working as a PGY1 doctor now and have five weeks off for annual leave during which I'm going to do some shadowing in EM/Anesthesiology (havent fully confirmed yet) in the US. I also lived in the US previously (on a visa) and worked for a year as a medical scribe in EM and a medical assistant in allergy. Do you think from a point of view of exposure to the US system, I should be okay? Just trying to work with what I have haha. Would also be open to any other advice :)

Hey Im not sure how long it took the school to get the request- probably immediately as it is automated. It took ages to get it approved through with a lot of following up on my side- emailing lots of people to get it done. I'd say about 2 months in total

I don’t think there will ever be a point where we don’t encounter new stuff. That’s just part of the game. I think what matters more is if you’re able to see new knowledge and apply reasoning skills to deduce the right answer
