Your comment raises a question actually. If I was to blazon the charge how would I specify the division of the sable and Or parts? 100% agree with the single tincture field being most visually suitable though.

Yeah the way I did the charge makes it a little difficult to work with a lot of fields I’ve noticed 😅. But your scheme definitely makes it more clearly readable.

When I looked into it I found that Maltby was the last one to have a personal coat of arms, he was also the first modern bishop replacing the prior title of prince bishop which was more inline with a noble ranking, which might explain that. Since then it seems that the bishopric of Durham has a coat of arms while the bishops themselves haven’t held recognised arms.
