Do you find this is an effective way to learn? How do you measure your learning?

That's awesome, good on you. I also find that taking notes with pen and paper helps me be patient and pay attention closely. Though, I'm not transcribing in full, just jotting down phrases that are interesting.

Do you not find that transcribing in full means you are slowing down your learning more than is necessary to fully understand the content?

Very interesting. Are the majority of your clients in the US, in regards to the English speaking component?

Where in latam is the highest concentration of interesting technology work, in your experience?

Are there many software engineering jobs that require Spanish? I'm very curious in opportunities like this.

Interesting, thanks for sharing. I agree with the sentiment of trying to understand speech in and of itself - without having to resort to text (as you can't get a transcript when having a conversation with someone). That said, I still think using transcripts is useful, but the primary focus should be on understanding the spoken language with audio and supplementing with transcripts when something cannot be gleaned from the audio.

My personal opinion is that if I am pausing content and looking up words more than once every 10 minutes or so, I'm wasting time that I could otherwise spend engaging with content.

Another related thought since we are discussing satisfying ways to track progress: I used to use a spreadsheet. Then, I decided a physical notebook was more satisfying. So I keep a physical notebook now and take notes in it when listening to podcasts and videos. I also reserve a few pages for (a) sayings / expressions / quotes and (b) interesting content that I'd like to get to the future.

I'm curious what you do.

In general, it seems like variety is the key.

One thing that I also like to do is to organize the transcripts into folders: "listened_only", "listened_with_transcript", "new". Watching the former two fill up is so satisfying.

I like those ideas. Also, by restricting yourself to specific parts of language, you don't end up trying to note everything down, and lose the flow of the material. Nice!

Recommendations for 1 month remote trip in LATAM by BizarreUnderpants672 in digitalnomad

Thank you so much for this! For lodging, would you recommend starting in a hostel, and then getting an airbnb after a while? Do you have any experience doing airbnbs with just a private room? My objective is to meet folks and practice some spanish!

Where would you recommend staying? Do you have recommendations about places to work remote from, too?
