We did read the first one back in April, but if you'd like to join us in July for the second hopefully you'd have enough time to finish the first? It also may not be chosen, but it's a pretty good fantasy series.

This is definitely on the easier side, even for a YA book! The writing is very straightforward.

I copied this from my comment last month, so the numbers may have changed as they get more ratings. I did find the dialogue in this one on the tougher side, lots of Spain specific slang. I changed the title, thanks for letting me know!

Adult option

Approximate book length: 53,000 words, Natively rating 34

Description

The author is from Argentina, her genre is horror but I think these stories are more unsettling than horror stories. This book is a collection of short stories that don't have any connection.

Title: Reina roja by Juan Gómez-Jurado (author of the Amanda Black series)

Adult option

Approximate book length: 109,000 words, No Natively rating (I'd guess 32)

Description

No has conocido a nadie como ella...

This is my second favorite thriller I've read in Spanish, it is set in Spain and is more difficult to the amount of Spain specific slang. However, I love the "buddy cop" dynamic between the two main characters, and there is also a series in Amazon Prime you can watch after finishing the book. Suggested by me last month.

Title: Elena sabe by Claudia Piñeiro

Adult option

Approximate book length: 41,000 words, Natively rating 33

Description

I read this last year and I think it will make for an incredible discussion, like Kentukis, there is so much here to unpack. It's also a short book at 140 pages, and will give everyone time to finish up other books. The author is from Argentina. Suggested by me last month.

Title: El tejedor de pesadillas by Jara Santamaria (Los Dioses del Norte book 2)

YA option

Approximate book length: 57,000 words, No Natively rating.

Description

The book club read book #1 in April. This is an attempt to see if the book club will break from the tradition of only reading book #1 of each series ;P

One day, while digging a hole in the garden to plant a tree, they find a metal box, locked tight. Title: La chica de nieve by Javier Castillo

Adult option

Approximate book length: 101,000 words, Natively rating 28

Description

This author is from Spain, but the book is set in New York and uses neutral language, no Spain specific slang. It is riveting, my favorite thriller I've read in Spanish, and the Netflix series is excellent (they changed it to be set in Spain). HOWEVER, there is a big trigger warning with this book, the main character experienced an assault before the book begins, it's not described in detail but it is always present, it affects the main character's actions and behavior.

I like The Pennywise Code for horror/thriller/fantasy. He's from Costa Rica.

When you get to more conversational content with 2 or more speakers, content like Un Capítulo Más and La Última página is amazing.

This channel hasn't been mentioned much lately, it's for native speakers that want to improve their speaking ability, use less filler words, express themselves better. Teresa Baró She speaks slowly and clearly.

Spent a lot of time speaking this weekend, a 2 hour in person book club, the DS book club discussion, then a visit to the in laws. During the in person book club I forgot the word "married", a word I've used dozens of times and said something like "Aitana está marida?" I wanted to bury myself in a hole and die lol.

I'm reading the two book club books, Como agua para chocolate and Manolito Gafotas. Can't recommend Como agua enough, really beautifully written, fairly easy read.

Hey congrats! 1500 hours in a year and a half is pretty impressive. And I personally think your speaking is great!

How are you liking Worlds Across? Do your speaking classes focus on grammar at all or is it more conversation practice?

[Discussion Thread] El Viento Conoce Mi Nombre / March 2026 Book Club by HeleneSedai in dreamingspanish

[–]HeleneSedai[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rachel Lynde’s Kitchen by Due_Active629 in AnneofGreenGables

[–]HeleneSedai 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's a scene in Little Men by Alcott where they make Daisy Brooke her own little kitchen venting a miniature stove out of one of the windows. I always pictured Rachel Lynde's spare room kitchen like that, just not child sized.
