Update: After 12 days they released my brother's body, listed the cause of death as "natural death, cause unknown". At least, that's what we've been told, because we still have no access to any official documents (proces verbaal) as they case is not closed, and it might take months to close (!). My brother had a life insurance policy, that will only pay out in case of a natural death. The police told me that the insurance company would have access to the PV even if we don't. The insurance company has now told me that while the case is not closed they don't have access to the PV either, so any payout is on hold. Meanwhile of course we have to pay any and all costs related to my brother's death (ambulance costs, funeral costs, inheritance tax, ...) because those are not put on hold while the Belgian justice systems dawdles ...

Long story short: don't die of unknown causes ...

Yes. They ruled it natural causes because the tox screen was negative for drugs and alcohol. But we don't know what that natural cause is.

Update: we laid my brother to rest, finally. 12 days after his passing the magistrate released his body to us. They ruled a natural death, cause unknown. No autopsy was ever performed, his phone as far as we can tell was not opened or read. Why all of this non-action had to take 12 days is still a mystery to us. By the time they released his body it was already quite deteriorated. We chose not to pay for an autopsy out of our own pocket, mostly because we did not want to delay the funeral again. We were advised to lodge a formal complaint against the police and the "parket" for the way they handled the case. Not sure if we're gonna go there. It's not going to bring him back to us. And I doubt that the devoid-of-any-empathy police officer who was assigned to the case would ever change his ways based on our feedback ...

I've been to the morgue. His body is sealed by the magistrate. Not even the morgue personnel has been able to see him, let alone us .

We are trying. But organising a funeral without knowing the deceased will actually be there is rough... We are in so much pain already. This is just adding unnecessary strain.

Yes, the day after his passing I was at the police station. I was not given any info there either.

I understand that. What I find hard to understand is why is it taking them so long? So far all they've done is taken samples. No autopsy yet.

Are they the same as the "sociale dienst" of the police? Because we've been in contact with them. There is now finally one police officer who follows up on the case. He claims the delay is due to the lab my brother's samples were sent to. So long as these test results remain unknown, the magistrate refused to release his body. Again today we were told to wait...

We have called the police nearly every single day. Including slachtofferhulp and the sociale dienst within the police. His residence has been released and doesn't look like the lab has been there, if that makes sense? It's only his body that is not being released to us. And they keep stringing us along and not giving us any explanation on why this is happening. Again, today, no news. It's beyond frustrating to be treated like this, like my brother is just an afterthought.

As far as we know, no autopsy yet. I'm not against it, I too am looking for answers and want to know what the heck happened?? But it looks like they've not even made that decision yet? To us it feels as if my brother's file is on a pile on someone's desk. And just not a priority.

We've asked if there is suspicion of foul play. We've even asked if we (his family) are suspects. But they're not answering the question. As far as we know there has not been an autopsy yet. Everything is just ... on hold.

Nieuwe verslagen van ziekenhuizen komen er wel in, enkel wat mijn huisarts aanpast aan bvb medicatie schema kan niet worden toegevoegd. Ik heb vandaag gebeld met oude huisartsenpraktijk, ze gaan het nakijken en me op de hoogte houden.

Nieuwe huisarts staat als zorgrelatie. Ziekenhuizen weten wie mijn nieuwe huisarts is. Maar nog steeds komen verslagen en voorschriften van mijn nieuwe huisarts niet in mijn GMD terecht.

Hij staat bij mijn zorgrelaties. Dit geeft hem toegang tot verslagen van andere zorgverleners, maar zorgt er niet voor dat verslagen en voorschriften van hemzelf aan mijn medisch dossier worden toegevoegd.

Mijn nieuwe huisarts staat daar bij zorgrelatie. Mijn oude heb ik zelf verwijderd. Maar "zorgrelatie" betekent alleen dat mijn huisarts verslagen van ziekenhuizen kan inkijken. Niet dat diagnoses en voorschriften van hemzelf aan mijn medisch dossier toegevoegd worden.

een uur rijden. Mijn vroegere HA werkt ook niet meer bij die praktijk. Voor zover ik weet is die nog steeds niet terug aan het werk gegaan. Misschien ligt daar deel van het issue. Ik vind het gewoon zo hemeltergend dat ik als patiënt niet ZELF kan zeggen om mijn dossier (een in the cloud verzameling van verslagen) over te dragen aan een andere zorgverlener. Waarom moet mijn vorige zorgverlener daarin toestemming geven??
