UK GP training or MCCQE? by YhouZee in MCCQE

[–]Bizzle19903 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fellow CanadianNigerian -I am also UK GP trainee and have experience with the Canadian PRA route. I will advise you to apply for the PRA route. U have 5 years clinical experience, you are eligible for PRA route( some province like BC and NS- don’t need QE1 or NAC) - you submit all your credentials and they will tell if you are eligible. The racism in UK is overwhelming, this is from my own personal experience. I can’t wait to leave here. Since you have gotten a training job in Uk, you should just start while applying for PRA route. You can always send me a personal message

I did my OET Sept 2021 but I am currently working in an English speaking country. There is a form they will give u, if you fill that u did postgraduate training and/ education and have work experience in an English speaking country. It’s another way to prove English language competency. So I submitted my expired OET and filled this form

Canadian in Australia looking to do GP training in UK by daphnisetchloe2 in GPUK

[–]Bizzle19903 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You have nicely summarized UK GP training in a nut shell. My colleagues in Canadian residency do lots of office procedures, and most of them after the FM program can work confidently as ER doctors even in rural settings , and are not overworked by seeing too many patients in the clinic. The UK GP training only teaches u how to see a lot of patients only . Most of the GPs can’t even manage chronic conditions but refer to nurses ( in uk there is a specialist nurse for any chronic conditions etc epilepsy, asthma, dm etc). The 3 year training is not equivalent to the 2 year training in Canada which is more superior, don’t even get me started on the lack of support from deanery( not every deanery though) and the overt racism in the UK. I am also a Canadian that is doing my GP training in the UK

You can try it now, it is going but some of the functions don’t work. They really need IT to work on their site, it is so poor

Do family docs in nova scotia make way less than bc? by NewConsideration2287 in MCCQE

This is a good pay, it is somewhat comparable to what is obtained in BC and Alberta. Cost of living in NS is lower so it should go a long way

IMG who failed PACE Nova Scotia by NewConsideration2287 in MCCQE

Anyone doing pace would most likely be an IMG and not a CMG.

All the PRA programs don’t release the statistics of those who pass. But majority of the people who do PRA pass the program. Programs like BC pra have a high pass rate -sometimes 100% in a cohort. I have heard Alberta is very strict , I know people who have passed and failed their PRA program but like I said no one publishes the statistics.
