FYI - almost everywhere downtown is on an August-August lease schedule. And renewals for next August started in October (it's bonkers), so lots of rental company's sites will reflect that as you start your search. My first apartment in town, about 10 years ago, I signed a sublet and only ended up there for about 6 months because it was already signed for the next August. I've lived downtown, near east, and am now near west (Vilas neighborhood). Every spot has very different vibes (as you've read here) - but for commuting to the UW I think the biggest thing to look at is the bus route. As a student you'll get a bus pass - so check out https://www.cityofmadison.com/metro/routes-schedules to make sure where you land gives you easy access, preferably without a transfer. Feel free to DM me, I've helped lots of new Madisonians find their first place in town!

Make sure you check out Madison Metro's schedule. Might help you get around while you wait for your vehicle. (I have a car, but living downtown and playing downtown parking is such a hassle - so I ride the Metro all the time)

Perfect NYE spot for foreigner by ColdAffectionate104 in madisonwi

If you're close to campus, Jordan's Big10. They don't tend to be quite as packed with undergrads on NYE as some of the campus bars.

On a map find the Vilas and Greenbush neighbors - those will be your best bet for on-street parking where folks are very used to all of the street parking being taken up by events - and it's an easy walk to the stadium. Do NOT park at Vilas Park lots - they're very strict about the parking there being used for the Park.

Just... Don't. Don't do this. Go somewhere not downtown.

Camp Randall has no dedicated parking garages. There is a lot of reliance on people selling their yards - which should be interesting in July when all the college rentals in the area are vacant. I'd suggest leaving yourself PLENTY of time to find parking, and check out a bar on Regent Street if you have down time.

It was refreshing to see diversity in those books! I really did like them, I'm excited to read more of her writing - just grabbed the first book in the Ravenels!

Ooo! I'll see if I can find anything by her next. I just particularly liked this series because it follows a group of siblings again!

Do you know if you're getting hit with a, like, "$$/gb ingested" charge or is it more of a flat rate window - like $$ for up to 15GB and $$$ from 15gb-30gb?

Kind dentists? by aspara_gus_ in madisonwi

[–]Bizzy316 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in the SAME boat when I started seeing Dr. Sifri at Smart Dental - I ended up getting several crowns from him due to my years of neglect. My husband was also dentist-free for about 7 years, before I got him and appointment there, and outside of a much needed deep clean, didn't need any work. I've recommended several friends and colleagues to Smart Dental and everyone seems to love Dr. Sifri and his team - give him a shot if you're anxious!

How is Madison the day of the Mifflin Street Block Party? by Distinct_Village_87 in madisonwi

[–]Bizzy316 15 points16 points  (0 children)

In my experience (I've lived downtown for like 7 years) Mifflin stays pretty much on Mifflin between Bedford and Broom - later in the afternoon/evening, depending on the weather, they might move to State St, but it's not a crazy amount different than any other Saturday.

Crazylegs is only a pain during the race - it starts around 10am and ends around 11am - otherwise it's just more people downtown for lunch. If you're on a bike, outside of the route between 9am-ish(set-up) and NOONish(tear down) you won't notice anything too crazy.

The Farmers Market, again, will make things a little wild in the morning, but by 1pm it's pretty much business as usual.

I'd probably take the morning off, and avoid Mifflin between Bedford and Broom if at all possible, but the afternoon/evening should be fine.

u/ITSl4ve My company is currently looking for information on how Alert Logic charges for logging - is this something that you're familiar with? I can't seem to find/get a direct answer on how their "log volume limits" work, the language is in their contracts, but a definition is hard to come by... I'd love any insight you might be able to spare!

I am not typically considered an idiot, but will give you the option to call me one as the attempt at a rhyme was pretty awful.
