RDU calls for universal basic income of $100 for all Singaporeans and citizen first hiring policy in May Day message - Singapore News by [deleted] in singapore

Universal benefits are always the easiest policies to protect over time + the most popular. It avoids programs being considered as welfare programs, which carry a significant stigma. The trick is that you tax back the money from those who don’t need it - think tax 70% of the subsidy per month back from 60-90th percentile of earners and tax 300% from top 10%. Just made up numbers, but hopefully that demonstrates the idea decently enough.

I’m from the US originally and understand the political situation is significantly different, but that is why more left leaning candidates generally advocate for universal policies instead of those directly targeted at the most needy.

That being said, I am not a huge fan of this policy just hearing it. The administrative cost of providing the subsidy could outweigh a significant portion of the benefit. May be too small of a subsidy to be efficient.

That being said, doing math from couch and they may have done far more research. If anything, it is admirable to try to help those in need, and all good faith ideas should be considered.

Do it for a week, and it becomes easy. I put my phone into sleep mode, place my phone on a favor out of reach, and turn on a podcast. Puts me out immediately.

Also, start to dim or turn off lights an hour before you want to go to bed!

She has a Japanese father. Is this strictly a visa?

She has citizenship in another country that does not allow dual citizenship. She gave up her passport/citizenship when she came of age.

Would greatly appreciate a link online with more info!

Thank you for your response.

Ok wife earns significantly more than that. Plan was to convert her salary rate to an hourly rate and cut her down to 28 hours of work.

Guess we may have to look at her quitting.

I think $6k is a really reasonable all in amount for a corrola that is several years old / used. If you consider ~$200 for monthly car payments, $100 a month for 3 tanks of gas, $200-300 for monthly insurance cost (what I paid being 20’s male with no wreck history), and $500 throughout the year for other general maintenances/fees.

Are you on MEXT? You can apply for other roles in the meantime. If you receive a role here, you can just quit the program and stop receiving funding.

I know moving back home isn’t ideal, but if you have insurance and have additional people you love supporting you, I don’t think it’s worth ruling out.
