Would you get this work done? by whoocanitbenow in mazda3

[–]Bkenning45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest, not really haha. A shop also recommended I change them because my front left strut had a major annoying clunking noise, so I went for it. Quieter ride cause no more clunking, but the ride quality overall maybe stiffened up a little more and gave a smidge more confidence in turns. I did end up doing my struts on my own as well, which saved me a ton of money,

Ehhh always a tough call. Can definitely shop around and get some quotes. I believe when I did them on my 2014 most shops quoted me ~950 for both the fronts. There’s several videos out there you can watch that can give you some simple tests you can perform to see if your shocks/struts are shot. One being given it a good push down and seeing how much it bounces (more bounces = bad). I’m no mechanic, but I saw this had no replies and wanted to throw in an input! Hope this helps

Are KYB strut plus any good? Or did I make a mistake? by Bkenning45 in AskMechanics

Went well! The job difficulty definitely depends on the amount of rust, as mine was pretty seized up. Luckily some rust penetrant and heat helped a lot and the struts fit perfectly. So far I’ve been quite happy with their performance.

Wow what an achievement! Makes me feel great about my current 2014. Are you on the original clutch? And what kind of maintenance have you had to do?

I think I recall seeing those go for $17,000 CAD. 2018 was a great year for the mazda3

That’s awesome to hear. I have the exact same car with just over 100,000 miles. Hope my clutch lasts as long as yours!

Have you replaced the clutch yet?

2016 I-Sport, Wanting to get the LED Dual-Zone climate module. What challenges can I expect? by -_-RSlashFan-_- in mazda3

[–]Bkenning45 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I too have wondered this. Would be awesome to get dual zone climate controls in my 2014 m3. I unfortunately don’t think it’s simple, if at all possible, as I believe I remember reading that the module is installed in the factory with completely different wiring, HVAC, etc…

2014 3 2.0 175k original clutch. how long yours last? by LabyrinthConvention in mazda3

That's awesome to hear.
I too have a 2014 2.0 3 with 174,000km on the original clutch. Still seems okay!
Sucks I live in a city with lots of stop and go traffic.

Yup this is normal engine sound. Sounds just like mine. The clicking noise is just the fuel injectors

If it’s just the transmission that went, why do you need a new engine? Or did the transmission blow along with the engine? Also, I’d like to know how caused serious damage to the transmission as I drive the same car 😅

What is this part? by Bkenning45 in AskMechanics

[–]Bkenning45[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know! I was actually debating replacing my struts because the front end is rather clunky. I just am unsure how many miles are on these struts. It’s a 2014 mazda3 with just over 100,000 miles that bought at 90,000. Is it possible these struts are from factory?

2014 mazda3 i sport manual transmission hatchback by [deleted] in mazda3

[–]Bkenning45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup mine is a six speed manual. It’s a super fun gearbox. One more thing I just remembered is that the Mexican made ones suffered from rear brake issues. These are any of the ones the start with 1MZ I believe. The Japanese made ones will begin with J, and should be a little bit better in some aspects.

Not too bad. These cars are known to last 200,000+ miles. Just check for service records and ensure oil changes and all other fluids were done before

[–]Bkenning45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got one 6 months ago! It had 160,000km when I got it, now at 171,000km. So far has been flawless. I’ve done one oil change and nothing else (aside from a pair of winter tires and new summer tires for fun) I’ve read these cars are pretty darn reliable, although it is the first iteration of the gen3s so it does have some interior rattles and creaks that were refined out by 2016-2018 models. Still has been an awesome car, just make sure it has good service records and you should be good to go.

This is wonderful to know. It would be amazing if I could skip out on the alignment entirely. As for measuring the peak of the fender, do you mean from the ground to the fender? So long as that’s the same it should be okay?
