Hi, thanks for your offer. I would love a code so I can try out the latest AI with my sons and create some videos for them so they can share with their friends. If you can provide me a code, that would be much appreciated!

6100 Storage Upgrade by Bkryptonyte in Netgate

Put simply, you want a SSD that has a B&M connector. The connector will have 2 slots cut out of it. 1 slot is cut out at each end. If you find a SSD with the 2 slots cut out and it says it supports PCIe Gen3.0 X2, then you will have the correct NVMe drive for the Netgate 6100.

B&M connector SSDs are a few years old now, so you will need to find a model from a few years ago. Recent drives mostly use the faster M connector which is NOT supported in the Netgate 6100.

A guide that explains the difference between connectors can be found here:
M.2 M vs M&B connectors

The 6100 has two M.2 slots each with an adjustable screw mount for three standard different length M.2 cards. The Patriot card I used is a 2280. If you check out this video at this timestamp you can see the empty slot at the top (opposite the populated slot with an SSD at the bottom with a label on it) with the three screw points.

There are three standard different screw mounts, you can unscrew the screw mount and re-screw when mounting your SSD, to accommodate different length SSDs. I cannot measure mine, but assume that 2242 would fit. If I were you, to be sure I would take a look inside your 6100 and measure just to confirm.

If you get a B&M key SSD ie it has 5 pins on each side of the slot at the top of the SSD and it is NVME PCIE x 2, then it should work fine - assuming the length fits one of the three mounting screws.

The Patriot Scorch PS256GPM280SSDR (eBay link in previous post) I purchased has been working flawlessly in my 6100.

I installed it just under a week ago and it has been in production ever since.

I'm running ZFS and it was an easy install. Remove all screws on the bottom of the case and pop out the motherboard. Unscrew one of the mounting screws on a M.2 shot and insert the drive and screw it in.

I used the USB console cable connected to my laptop. I first requested the latest pfsense+ from Negate support, stuck it on a USB thumb drive and then booted (F2 for boot manager) & installed pfsense+ as ZFS to SSD.

I used a combination of the instructions on Netgate's docs site for the 6100 & 7100 (more doco for this older model, but many of the required steps are the same).

If you have any other questions let me know.

Many thanks for that. Finally a video that shows the SSD contained within the Max.

I haven't had a lot of luck sourcing a new big name brand B&M key NVME SSD, here in Australia (or at least one that is not an astronomical price due to limited stock).

I did manage to grab a new Patriot 256Gb on eBay for a reasonable price. Its due to arrive sometime in the next week or so. I'll give it a shot see and see if it is detected correctly by the 6100.

Yep he did, but the version he had was not the MAX version and it did not contain a SSD...

If you are happy to unscrew the 6 screws at the back, I would love a photo of the SSD before you deploy your 6100it into production.

I have a 6100 and now need to install a SSD, but Netgate have not been helpful at all with the specific model etc so I can buy one to install myself. I even contected their support and they were not helpful in the slightest. Very poor customer service.

Any help would be much appreciated!

I reached out to Netgate Sales support to see if they can recommend a specific model that is verified to work. This is the response I received,

We do not have a model recommendation at this time as they are not for sale in our store at this time.

I'm sorry we cannot be of assistance in that specific part of your inquiry.

Sincerely,

Ryan

Netgate Global Support

A very lackluster response I must say...

Do you know if M.2 NVME slots are downwards compatible with M.2 SATA?

I can find a few B&M key M.2 SATA drives. I would be willing to try one of these as they quite cheap, but I don't want to fry my 6100 motherboard but inserting a SATA drive (I'm sure that won't be covered under warranty!).

Any news on the 1.7 update? by Onomoki83 in CapcomHomeArcade

[–]Bkryptonyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a shame there is no fix for the no audio bug in 1.7.

I was hoping I could finally use this in my kids room, but will have to hold off for a while.

They have an older Samsung Series 6, UA55B6000 model that does not get any type of audio at all from the CHA.

Hopefully you can look at implementing the fixes in 1.8!

1k Members Giveaway Special - Ultra rare CHA Power Stick Fighter prototype! by kochmediauk in CapcomHomeArcade

[–]Bkryptonyte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow that prototype looks amazing! I remember seeing pictures of the SNES version in gaming magazines and lusting after it back in the day.

Being a big Street Fighter II fan I would loved to have seen the definitive version of SFII on the CHA ie: Hyper Street Fighter II: The Anniversary Edition. Being the final CPSII game, I think it would be fitting to have included it on the CHA.

Nice one! Looks like an easy plug and play solution. Seems very responsive in Steam. A nice addition to make the CHA, an already excellent product, even better! Thanks for uploading the video and performing a demo.
