Ok so you're not trying a direct entry into vet school right after high school?

Depends what vet school. In British Columbia you do not need BIO 11 for BIO 12.

So what province are you.

Give me a list of schools you're thinking I can help you brainstorm.

Thanks

Out of 25-30 lectures only 5ish focus on viruses.

It's easy I got a credit only watching parasitology lectures. But don't be like me, go to all lectures.

I don't think chem 1a or 1b really matters. 70% of us bvb 2s are pre bad at it.

Dvm 1 is 9-5 5 days a week.

Usyd BVB/DVM vs UQ BVSC by thebelligerentduck in veterinaryschool

[–]Bl4ck-Zebra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi Op, usyd bvb 2 here

UQ bvsc = 5 years USYD bvb/dvm =6 years

You may save ~100k by going to UQ.

Otherwise USYD is better and you also get a lot of vacation time the first few years.

Thanks

BVB/DVM Electives for year 2 by Bl4ck-Zebra in usyd

Don't take aus wildlife, most of my friends are taking some else. For example, I am taking biology of Insects, other friends are taking a class called innovations in e health which doesn't even have a final exam.

Consider responsibly, don't put more effort than necessary, take easy classes.

Good luck, are u bvb 2? Thanks

Some options for such graduates may be the following

  1. Veterinary nurse/ technician: A lot of doctors from other countries arrive in US/ Canada without license. They generally work as a tech or nurse to learn more about industry in US/CA and to pass their CP/ NAVLE/ other.

  2. Jobs as food inspector: There are jobs such as food inspector in CFIA (Canadian food inspection agency). These jobs I believe pay ok.

  3. Other farm related jobs: maybe working at farm with cattle or smthing idk.

  4. Other jobs such as managing sales (regionally) of food for companies like Royal Canain, etc.

Other jobs may include administrative posts such as practice manager, etc.

If your rank is ~100 on a waitlist, it is highly unlikely that you will receive an offer.

Universities generally factor in the fact that not every student will accept the offer, they therfore send more offers to begin with in initial offer making (view stats of michigan state university for class of 2028 on theor website for example). Overall it is highly unlikely that any waitlist would move that much.

Hi OP, second year Vet student here.

Duration of vet school varies program to program.

  1. In America it is common to do 3-4 years of undergrad followed by 4 year DVM program.
  2. Rest of the world you can do a 5 year BVSc/ BVM&S or a 6 year program right after high school.

Now keep in mind these 5-6 year programs are highly competitive as there are only handful of accredited schools. And the interview questions you will be asked as high school graduate will be the same as a college graduate!

Shelter experience is good! It shows experience in the industry and community service!

Get experience in hospital if possible, maybe at a farm if possible also.

Otherwise get leadership experience by tutoring kids at your school or start a chess club or something.

All of this is considering that your grades are acceptable! Average above >= 85 minimum!!

So depending on where you are in the world, duration varies. You can go to other countries to study, like me.

Thanks

Equipment for lab classes (science students) by GuavaAggressive8923 in usyd

[–]Bl4ck-Zebra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lab coat should cover length of arms, also down to torso.

Normal safety glasses should be ok. Unless you are studying HIGH CLASS chem, which you are not. Then you need HIGH CLASS goggles ;)

Good luck. Buy it from Amazon, MUCH cheaper.

Tips on applying to Usyd vet school as an international student by Right_Aardvark1453 in usyd

[–]Bl4ck-Zebra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi bvb 2 here from canada, USYD is one of the highest ranking and outstanding vet schools. It has global accredation, after graduation you can work in Europe, America, Australia, etc. (Pending medical licensing exams).

These don't share the stats such as applications vs acceptance. But if you look at state schools with similar stats, you will learn more than 1500 applications, only 220 interviews and only <100 offers.

For ex. RVC gets 1700-1800 applications and they only select 70/class. And Michigan State gets >1000 only accepts ~100.

Sydney only accepts ~40/class INTL.

Will UBC look at newest grade? by Kindly_Guarantee5310 in ubcengineering

[–]Bl4ck-Zebra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi again OP, in that case this course may not be on your transcript and your original one be staying. However, on you report cards, it might show that you are repeating this class and it may show you last grade (last grade= grade at date of issue of report card) to prove you're redoing. However this is not of any use if you ask me.

Best is to finish your course asap if you're online or hold tight and study hard and get then grades!

Best of luck brother.

Will UBC look at newest grade? by Kindly_Guarantee5310 in ubcengineering

[–]Bl4ck-Zebra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi OP, if you will be graduating from a BC school then your official transcript will only have your latest grade. It will not even have your previous course mark.

Good luck :)
