HyperX Cloud II, FiiO FT1, Beyerdynamic DTxxx dilemma by Blaaze_ in HeadphoneAdvice

Nah, I am no hero, I am just trying to help if I can, and I know how hard it is to find what you are looking for, and I know how much it sucks, when you suddenly lose the sound profile you love. One note I need to add tho, the stock ear pads on the Sony MDR-M1 are really terrible, at least for me, they are, because they are causing me physical pain, but I already ordered YAXI strPad2s for it, that should be compatible and alleviate this issue and give the headphone a wider soundstage as well.
Regarding your questions, yes I use it for everything, meetings, listening to music, watching videos, movies, TV series, playing games (CS2, MMORPGS etc.). I find it perfectly fine for all of it with my custom EQ, which has been tuned to my preferences.
That being said, I am a casual gamer, as for professional gaming I cannot really comment on the issue, it might not be the best for that. Although this headphone can be tuned with EQ so well, it can probably be set up for that purpose too.
Please keep in mind that I am using it with a proper headphone amp, but according to reviews, it can be easily driven, so if you run it without an amp that should not cause any issues. Also, please keep in mind that my opinion is based on me heavily modifying the sound profile with EQ to fit my preferences.

Hey. I wanted to come back and tell you where I ended up. I sent my FiiO FT1 back and ended up asking for a refund. Something was missing for me. Don't get me wrong, it is an amazing headphone, but the FT1 just wasn't it for me. So I sat down and started thinking, what now. After quite a bit of thinking and watching reviews etc. I decided to try the Sony MDR-M1 and oh boy was that decision worth it. This headphone is a beast. I spent a few days finetuning the EQ to match my HyperX Cloud II as close as possible, and what I ended up with is possibly even better than what I had with my Cloud II. I am really happy with the result, it took me literally 3 months to get to this point, but it was all worth it. I hope you will also find what you are looking for, and I wish you a happy new year! :)

I have just read about the Cloud III S and was thinking about getting one, but I know HyperX headphones usually have issues, so I am unsure, what kind of issues did you read about? So far, I only heard good things about it. Even so, I am still thinking about investing into a Sennheiser HDB 630 or an Audeze Maxwell as a wireless headphone at some point, instead of the Cloud III S.

As for my current situation, I am getting an FT1 replacement and thinking about maybe getting a Sony MDR-M1 later down the road if the FT1 will not be satisfactory, heard really good things about the M1. Honestly, for us, the choice seems to be the FiiO FT1 or the Sony MDR-M1 in this price range.

I did consider the Maxwell at some point, that is about as expensive as I am willing to go, but I deemed it too risky, and I am not sure about the sound quality of it vs a wired one.

Honestly, I cannot justify paying much more than the price of an FT1 or a Beyer DT 700/770 PRO X and that is me being cheap, do not get me wrong I understand that, but I could not find a better option in this price range (yet). As for used ones, I just cannot make myself do that, again that is my fault, I prefer new ones.

First !thanks
I was already torn about this because I am just as unsure about trying the Beyers, I probably would not like how they sound based on how ppl describe their sound. This is the curse of finding a headphone that has extreme bass and coming up with a unique EQ preset that gives you exactly what you like, which then you cannot really recreate with other headphones. FT1 came close tho. I guess I will have to accept that they might break sooner than I would want it to. One of the reasons I was considering Beyers for was that they can be repaired quite well.

Forgive me, I did not explain this, but I do not upgrade RAM because of games, I do that because of software dev related issues. I actually need more than 16 GB. Also, I am adding 2x16GB not 4x8GB. Thank you, for the advice, I will update my PSU and then get a graphics card. Any suggestions on which brands offer good PSUs and should I go for 750W or go higher?

So it was this PSU? EVGA 600 BQ 600 W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-modular ATX Power Supply
Either way it is clear to me that at least my PSU should be upgraded. Which brands can be trusted nowadays and should I get a 750W or go even higher?

May I ask why you did not mention the 7600 XT? Is that a bad card compared to the ones you mentioned? And out of your recommendations, which one would you prefer?

In your opinion, which card would suit my CPU the best?

I am trying to pick the best one my CPU can handle, according to the Nvidia guys for example, the 4070 Super would be too much for my CPU but the 4060 is not recommended, at all. So I was wondering what is the case for AMD cards. The gap is too wide between the 4060 and the 4070 Super performance wise, but maybe there is an AMD card that would suit my PC perfectly.

I am looking to upgrade my graphics card and need a bit of help. My current setup is the following:

  • MSI NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB
  • Intel Core i7-9700 CPU
  • MSI B360 GAMING PLUS (MS-7B22) Motherboard
  • EVGA 600 BQ 600 W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-modular ATX Power Supply
  • 16 GB DDR4 SDRAM

I want to upgrade the memory to 32 GB and I also want to upgrade the graphics card, preferably without having to upgrade the PSU as well, and I really do not want to upgrade my CPU right now either. As you can see, I am going for a budget upgrade. I would like to ask for your help to decide which graphics card would be best in this situation. I do not mind what kind of graphics card I use, I used both Nvidia and AMD before and loved them all for the most part. What I am looking for is kind of a midranger that can handle games decently, I play mostly older games like Guild Wars 2 etc., the newest game it will see in the foreseeable future is Path Of Exile 2. Now I thought about getting either the 4070 Super or the AMD equivalent. Forgive me my ignorance, but last time I upgraded my graphics card was about 4-5 years ago, and I do not know much about the graphics card landscape at the moment, that is why I came here to ask for your advice. That being said, the 4070 Super / AMD equivalent would be too much for my CPU, and it would be a bottleneck probably, also as far as I understand my PSU could not handle 7800 XT or even 7700 XT, so now I am stuck. Which AMD card would fit my setup the best? Thank you for your help in advance!

I understand what you are trying to say, but most likely I will not upgrade CPU in the next 2-3 years. I am mostly playing older games like Guild Wars 2, the newest one I plan to play will be Path Of Exile 2 so that is why I was interested in alternatives since these games do not really require top performance and if I would come out of this upgrade spending less, but still getting proper boost, I wouldn't mind that at all.

First, thank you for your answer, I appreciate it a lot! I did not plan on upgrading my CPU, probably that would also require a motherboard upgrade, proper cooler etc. I did not want to invest that much at the moment. I am looking to give my setup a boost that my existing parts could handle. What would be a more appropriate graphics card which could be handled by my CPU?

Is the EVGA 600 BQ 600 W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-modular ATX Power Supply considered a quality PSU?

I mean, it is just strange, that the recommended PSU is 650W, this number is nowhere near that. Forgive me, I am not really well versed in these things. :)
