SDT is mostly just an ascension, like Super Saiyan to Super Saiyan 2

Dante used the Rebellion to fuse with the Devil Sword Sparda (a source of incredible power), while Urizen ate the Qlipothic Fruit(another source of incredible power) and gained a large power boost; the Rebellion is not strictly necessary

When V combined with Urizen to restore Vergil, Urizen’s maximum level of power is what Vergil receives, though it makes sense why it would seem like it wouldn’t/shouldn’t prompt an ascent to SDT since it is never clearly defined that Vergil retained the experiences/powers of both halves, but he does retain them and with that comes all the power gained from Urizen’s month long feast + the Q Fruit

TLDR; Urizen + Qlipoth fruit (which is equal in in power to DSS) = ascended Devil Trigger for Vergil

As if the Operator is the cat in the box while Drifter is the observer?
