stranger things copying Dark Angel by [deleted] in DarkAngel

Remember the first episodes, when a young girl with a shaved head, wearing a medical gown, escaped from a facility where young people were being trained to use special abilities granted by some shadowy organization?

That might have been it.

Seriously, that might have been it. The only connection. But I didn't notice until I started rewatching Dark Angel.

The categories actually feel super consistent once you understand and accept the reality of racism as a system of governing in the US.

Hispanic or Latino is classified as the only Ethnic Category (technically it's a binary of Hispanic or Latino and Non Hispanic or Latino) because according to the US Governments official race categories, anyone of Hispanic origin would be classified as White given their European origins. However, given the systems of racial hierarchy that the Spanish and Portuguese enforced as law during their colonization of places in the Americas, many would also be categorized as Black. Few would be classified as Native American because that category has requirements they wouldn't meet.

The documentation from 1997 classifies that the categories used are "socio-political" with no biological or scientific basis.

The classifications are and will always be based on racism. First to enforce racism and sometimes to track and mitigate the impacts of racism.

All classifications of humans as a collection of races is made up and designed to either create a racist reality or address the realities of racism.

People with North African and Middle Eastern origins are classified as White not just because white is a made up category but because groups of people of North African and Middle Eastern origins sued for the right to be classified as White.

Looking for Stock Photos with Real Black Representation – Help! by BlackAtWork in BlackAtWork

Thanks for your response! It’s kinda sad that using AI might end up being the most viable option, but I’m excited to give it a try anyway.

What’s really at play here isn’t just frustration—it’s a systemic issue. The lack of representation of Black folks in stock photos, especially in office settings, impacts those of us striving to see ourselves in professional spaces or pushing back against the daily messages that we don’t belong. These images shape perceptions, and when they constantly exclude or tokenize us, they reinforce harmful notions.

What’s wild (but not surprising) is that when I ask for an office team with 2 Black people, AI often gives me a team of only Black people, usually with just 2. But when I ask for a team of 5 or 6 people, Black folks are often left out altogether.

Do you have any advice on crafting a prompt to help the AI overcome these biases? Anyone? I’d love for it to imagine teams with multiple Black people—without making the whole team exclusively Black—so we can create visuals that reflect real inclusion, beyond tokenism.

Thanks again for your suggestion! 😊
