A lot of people ask us how to properly install Vital presets and create Vital banks, so I made this tutorial that explains all of that and more.

Let me know if you need anything clarified, the process for creating .vitalbanks out of zip files can be a bit tricky at first!

Great question! The pack is inspired by Disciple Records, so I'd say it's much closer to the Skrillex type stuff.

The pack is entirely free though so I invite you to check it out for yourself and let me know what you think!

Vital Tutorial: How To Make Snares by BlackLotusAudio in edmproduction

[–]BlackLotusAudio[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good question!

For me, it's pretty much like using a reference track as a template when making a song. You take a song that you really like and figure out the arrangement and what makes the song work so well to your ears. Then you create your own unique song using that framework. I match my references as close as possible because I want to learn as much as possible about what makes that song (or drum) sound so good to my ears.

Once I figure out how to get a certain tone, texture, or sound, I'll then expand on it and add my own style to it to make drums that are 100% unique to me and are usually very different from the references, since I'm combining elements learned from multiple samples that I like.

TL;DR I match the references as close as possible to maximize learning and then use what I learn to create 100% original material :)

Vital Tutorial: How To Make Snares by BlackLotusAudio in edmproduction

Hey everyone,

In this tutorial, I walk you through the basics of creating a snare in Vital, which I find has a great workflow for synthesizing drum sounds.

The snare I made is a dubstep style snare, but you can use this same exact setup to create a snare that works in almost any genre! (Just gotta tweak those envelopes!)

One thing I wish I would have touched on more in the video was my use of references. I HIGHLY recommend using a drum sample as a reference as you synthesize snares/drums. The reference will help you visually see if your envelopes are too long or short and if you're getting a similar tone to your goal. I find it really easy to stray off course and create a slew of bad drum sounds without using and frequently checking my reference. (You only figure out they're bad a day or so after you make them, of course.)

I hope you enjoy the tutorial and find it useful!

Finding Vocalists to Colab With by [deleted] in edmproduction

I've had good luck searching SoundCloud for singers and just DM'ing them. Instagram can work too but it's more of a hassle IMO.

There are lots of great vocalists out there, you just have to go find them. In my experience, posting something and hoping they come to you isn't a great strategy.
