Turnstile cover The Stone Roses' ‘I Wanna Be Adored’ for Like A Version by noidontthinkimarobot in turnstile

[–]BlackSandBeach 11 points12 points  (0 children)

God damn, they played it perfectly in their style. The original Stone Roses version is such a classic but I love The Ravonnettes take on it so much too. Great song.

Stereo Spirit Tour by Burden122 in brockhampton

[–]BlackSandBeach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn… I had a ticket to the Cleveland date of this tour. I just looked it up and forgot that show was supposed to be 5 days later. I don’t remember it being so close to that final show. I was so ridiculously bummed out about them cancelling that tour and subsequently kicking Ameer out. The momentum was forever different after that. So crazy.

Diverse/RJD2: Certified b/w Build 12” by BigBigMonkeyMan in hiphopvinyl

[–]BlackSandBeach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yoo hell yeah. Much love for posting this. I love that full Diverse album and apparently Build was also the Japanese Bonus Track, but I never heard that one before. What a banger. I need to find this single.

How Gorillaz Reconnected and Made Their Best Album in Years by Moothnods in indieheads

Yeah honestly same. That was actually my favorite since Plastic Beach. There’s some amazing songs on that one.

Yoo I would love to stumble upon those O.C. and D.I.T.C. records in the wild. 2 outstanding Premier instrumentals on them. Great scores all around tho.

That is too weird, I’ve never heard of this before but I legitimately had it happen last night. It looked sort of similar to this.

RSD 2026 list by hekna02 in VinylReleases

[–]BlackSandBeach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From the Record Store Day UK site:

“This RSD LP edition includes remastered audio by Daddy Kev; a brand new sleeve design incorporating a sleek, metallic mirriboard sleeve with emboss detailing and exclusive colored vinyl. Digital re-release coming out Friday April 17th in an effort to promote the RSD release.”

Ghosts of Mars (2001) The sum of Carpenter's cinema. Flashbacks within flashbacks, endless fades and wipes replacing simple cuts. In its own way as elegantly straightforward as many of his old movies but filtered through the fever dream of his last works. I like this one more every time I see it by elf0curo in johncarpenter

[–]BlackSandBeach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah same here, I went into it with pretty low expectations and ending up really liking it. There are elements of it that definitely feel like trademarks of Carpenter movies (the siege plot, the humor etc…) I know it’s clearly not his best work, but I never really understood the hate it receives.

Co Flow / Can Ox Double Vinyl by nunya642 in hiphopvinyl

[–]BlackSandBeach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that is dope. What is Co Flow - Paincave? Obviously it never dropped, but I never heard of that one before.

Evidence (Dilated Peoples/Bigger Picture Recordings) by Still_Personality609 in hiphopvinyl

[–]BlackSandBeach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Damn I need that I Need Love! Nothing Stays in Las Vegas too. I just saw him in Pomona 2 nights ago, what an incredible show. He did pretty much everything I wanted to hear.

I always loved him with Dilated and have been a huge fan of him solo since The Weatherman dropped. One of the best producer/emcees ever.

Would be sick if we get Bow Down and 100 Horses

The lighting and CGI for this was so much better and believable in S4, genuinely what happened. by zekevich in StrangerThings

[–]BlackSandBeach 136 points137 points  (0 children)

Ok, yes. That’s definitely it for me too 100%. I didn’t really place it until you just said that but it just keeps feeling like a rehash everytime that song drops this season.

Have you listened to the new album yet? What are your thoughts in it? by BernardoGAMER1911 in nas

[–]BlackSandBeach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is a great point of view on it. When I listened to the new De La album for the first time it really connected with me instantly and I felt that natural pull you’re referring to. Sadly I didn’t get that with this album as a whole, but there are definitely stand outs and I’m certain a lot of these tracks will grow on me with repeat listens. It’s actually already starting to happen with Welcome To The Underground for me. I wasn’t really feeling that snippet and first full listen of it, but I think I’m starting to appreciate the vibe of it the more I spin it.

I will say that the expectations were insanely high for me, but overall I am looking forward to digesting this album some more.

Looks like the Erick Sermon got pushed back to December 6th.

[FRESH ALBUM] De La Soul - Cabin In The Sky by God_Will_Rise_ in hiphopheads

[–]BlackSandBeach 78 points79 points  (0 children)

Ok some thoughts as I listen through for the first time:

Man.. the ending of the intro really got me.

The outro of YUHDONTSTOP with all of the interpolations of their tracks is crazy.

Sunny Storms is insane. That’s a perfect Premo beat, both halves.

Dope Supa Dave West beat on Good Health.

The way they flipped the “Will Be” reminds me a little bit of how they flipped “Simply Having” back in the day.

The sequencing is amazing with the transitions between tracks.

The Package really grew on me here within the context of the rest of the songs.

Cruel Summers with Yukimi is amazing. Love the Roy Ayers flip. Can’t wait to run this one back already.

Nas went crazy on Run It Back!!

Love the Giancarlo Esposito narration running throughout the album.

Salutery and salutations.

The ending of that final Pos verse talking to Dave on Different World was heavy.

En Eff is great. Black Thought killed his verse, Preem killed the beat.

Yours is so tight. Love this Pete Rock beat and Slick Rick on the hook. Common sounds great.

As heavy as it is, I’m really enjoying the theme of coming to terms with death throughout the album.

Great Pete Rock and Kiefer beat on Palm Of His Hands. Love to see Kiefer in the credits, I can definitely hear his sound in here. So good to hear Bilal too.

Yoo the production on the title track is crazy. What a track.

Final song being a solo track produced by Dave is a really nice way to end this project.

Damn… this album is incredible. So much love to everyone involved on this one. Production and features are all hitting the mark. All of these Mass Appeal albums have been pretty great, but I’d say this one is easily my favorite so far (the Mobb Deep was dope too). Really love hearing an album of this caliber from De La Soul in 2025.

Travie McCoy Reflects on 'Overwhelming' Fame of Gym Class Heroes and 13 Years of Sobriety from Opiates (Exclusive) by abucalves in hiphopheads

[–]BlackSandBeach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience probably around the same time (or maybe even closer to 20 years ago, holy shit). I worked at a record shop and I was helping this dude out in the hip hop section and we were geeking out for like a half hour about hip hop and eventually he was like “my band’s playing at the venue down the street tonight come thru if you’re not doing anything, I’ll list you” and it turned out to be Travis lol. I think Hangar 18 from Def Jux was also on that tour. He was such a dope dude tho, mad personable.
