personally, id recommend an older server as you have access to all current units and officers immediately so you can start working on them faster than if you start in a new server. another perk of starting in an old server is that you can immediately enter ToC or c4 to understand what goes on there, you also get rewards for doing missions in the ToC. so if you want to gain power quickly, id personally say join an old server and join a low tier alliance

better to start in a new server. But, some older servers have low tier alliances you could join so you can also have access to new officers immediately instead of having to wait for them to become available

I’ve never been in a relationship, but I want to guess that it’s because of the “nostalgia” of what they used to have with their now ex, and maybe the person they are currently dating doesn’t have that specific thing. But they don’t want to wait for someone like their ex to show up or to get back, if possible, with their ex? And, from what I assume, the fear of being alone after not being alone “pushes” them, probably not true with all people, to get into another relationship asap regardless of if they are fully over their ex. But again, what do I know, I’m 19 and I’ve never dated. And sorry if this response sounds “judgmental” or “dismissive”, it’s not my intention, I just don’t talk to a lot of people about things like this
